The Ellwood City girls basketball traveled across the mighty Connoqunessing River Thursday evening and earned a 62-40 victory over rival Riverside. The Lady Wolverines jumped out to an early 21-8 advantage after the first quarter and did not relinquish the lead as three players scored in double figures. McDade, Fox Combine to Lead Panthers To 69-58 Victory Over Lions

The inside-outside duo of Darren McDade and Drake Fox combined to score 36 points as the Riverside Panthers defeated New Brighton 69-58 Wednesday night. Fox drained four 3-pointers on the evening while McDade poured in 12 first half points to lead the victors. Registration is open for 2024 Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation spring baseball and continues through February 11th. Register early and take advantage of volunteer fee discount Six levels of league play are Tee Ball (age 4-6), Farm (age 7-8), Minor (age 9-10), Little League (age 11-12), Pony League (age 13-24), and Colt League (age 15-17). The Ellwood City boys and girls basketball team each netted a Christmas Tournament championship Thursday evening. First, the Wolverines boys team easily dismantled Maplewood 62-22 to capture the Mercer Christmas Tournament championship. Nine players, including all five starters, scored in the victory. A pair of big men led the offensive charge Wednesday night for the Ellwood City boys basketball team as they picked up a victory over Redbank Valley in the Mercer Christmas Tournament. Aaron Lake – who finished with a career high 22 points – and Joseph Roth combined to score 53 points in the Wolverines 77-71 victory. The Ellwood City Wrestling team improved their regular season record to 4-3 after its 48-18 victory over Summit Academy on Wednesday. Seven Wolverines wrestlers collected victories by pin fall on Wednesday. The Ellwood City Girls Basketball Team routed New Brighton 69-15 Monday night, improving their record to 5-1 on the young season. Kayla Jones poured in a game-high 23 points to lead the offensive charge as the visiting Wolverines. Williams Accepts Softball Scholarship With Fairmont State University

Last week, Riverside senior shortstop Mia Williams signed to continue her athletic career at Fairmont State University. Williams has started and lettered the past three years of varsity softball and has been named the Beaver County Times Athlete of the Week. As a junior, Williams doubled and collected three RBIs to help lead the Lady Panthers to the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Playoffs for the first since 2013. Senior big man Joseph Roth logged a triple-double Tuesday evening to help lead the Ellwood City boys basketball team to 71-59 non-section victory over Serra Catholic. Roth finished with 29 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists in the victory. The Wolverines jumped out to an early 22-5 advantage after the first period but saw the lead dwindle to only five points at halftime as Serra Catholic poured in 24 second quarter points.
