Borough Council Extends Invite to ECASD Board of Directors to Discuss Softball Field Location Options

Speaking on behalf of the Borough of Ellwood City, Borough Solicitor Ed Leymarie said during Monday night’s meeting that the borough would be glad to meet with the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors to discuss an alternate location for the girl’s softball field. Leymarie said the borough has received numerous phone calls with complaints about the Ewing Park School property location, which is the site that was chosen unanimously by the ECASD’s Board of Directors. “We are prepared to enter into a long-term lease if the school is interested,” he said. The Ellwood City golf team returned to action less than 24 hours after picking up their first victory on the season in section play as they took on the Beaver from Delmar on Wednesday and collected its second victory of the young season. Sophomore Jordan Keller continued to his phenomenal early season play with a round of 36 to lead the Wolverines to its 201-219 victory over the Bobcats. Wolves Club Hosts Picnic To Honor Riverside Baseball Team

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II met on Wednesday, August 9th at their Shelter in Ewing Park and honored the Riverside High School Baseball Team. A picnic was held to honor the accomplishments of the team who went undefeated in their regular season, competed and won in both the WPIAL Championship and the PIAA State Championship. The Panthers are the first WPIAL team to win a state baseball title with a perfect record. The Club recognizes area residents and school sports teams under their Pro Bono Publico Award. Justin Hand Among Three Tiffin University Golfers To Earn GCAA All-America Scholar Honors

Former Riverside golf standout and upcoming senior at Tiffin University, Justin Hand, was among three Dragon golfers to have earned GCAA All-America Scholar honors according to a press release from the university. Justin Hand, David Siegel, and Matt Flynn earned the distinction with their academic performance in 2022-23. A total of 214 golfers earned the distinction nationally from 80 schools. 2023 Delmar Golf Course Club Championship Results

The 63rd Annual Delmar Golf Course Club Championship was held August 5th and August 6th, 2023. This year the event featured 63 members and Sam Barry Jr. collected his 11th club championship. Barry, Jr. finished with a two day total of 4 under par, 140 to win by 3 strokes over Broc Boariu and Lino Simeoni. Pickleball Court a “Hit” in Ewing Park

If you have noticed something new this year in Ewing Park … it’s probably the pickleball court. Councilwoman Judith Dici saw the sport growing in popularity and when she realized that it was a sport that many ages and skill levels could enjoy, she decided to bring the idea to Ellwood City Borough Council. After stringing together two victories to begin their tournament run, Ellwood City ran into some trouble over the weekend in the 72nd Annual Ellwood City Little League Tournament, first falling to defending tournament champion Central Valley 12-3 on Saturday and then to Neshannock on Sunday to eliminate the team from the tournament. Registration is now available for the Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation’s (ECABF) 2023 Fall Ball season. The season will be six to eight weeks at four area locations with four levels of league play. The season is schedule to take place August 26th/27th until October 20th/21st. Field locations include Friedhoff Field, Ellwood City; Rosannah Field, Ellwood City; Shenango Athletic Complex, New Castle; and Union Fields, also in New Castle. Ellwood City downed Laurel 13-4 Tuesday night in the 72nd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field. Ellwood City broke open a close contest with a seven-run outburst in the fourth inning to pull away from Laurel.
