Wolverines Baseball, Softball Teams Each Collect 10-Run Victories

Ellwood City baseball and softball teams each cruised to 10-run victories on Thursday. Ellwood City baseball defeated Shenango on the road 16-6 while the softball team took care of Quaker Valley 13-3 at home. For the Wolverines baseball team, an offensive onslaught produced 20 hits in the victory. Ellwood City scratched out a go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a section victory over Mohawk Monday afternoon. A walk and two Warriors errors help the Wolverines regain the lead after Mohawk had rallied with three runs in the top half of the frame to tie the game. Ellwood City Little League To Celebrate 75th Anniversary Season This Summer

Ellwood City Little League Baseball will celebrate their 75th anniversary this season. Ellwood City organized the first Little League program in Lawrence, Beaver, Butler and Mercer counties in 1950. Ellwood City along with McKeesport, Washington, Coraopolis, and Tarentum were the five leagues in western Pennsylvania that participated in the state tournament in 1950. The inaugural game of the Ellwood City Little League game was played at the Lincoln High School Field on June 6, 1950. Covert Medalist For First Time At BC3 As Pioneer Golfers Win By 3-stroke Margin

Butler County Community College golfer Mitchell Covert on Tuesday won medalist honor for the first time as a Pioneer as BC3 edged Hocking Community College, Nelsonville, Ohio, by three strokes and topped three other squads at Lake Arthur Golf Club to move to 5-0 this spring. Covert cut six strokes off his spring-season opening score April 17 at Lake Arthur Golf Club to finish Tuesday with a 5-over 77 in BC3’s 331-334 victory over Hocking Community College. Sturgeon Sets School Record At MAC Championships, Earns MVP

Delaney Sturgeon earned top ten finishes in four events at the 2025 MAC Championships held at Shenango High School on Wednesday afternoon. Her top mark in the Girls High Jump (5-07.00) set a new school record breaking a near four decade mark of 5’6″ set back in 1986 by Debby Plavecsky. Sturgeon also earned a 3rd place finish in Girls 100m Hurdles (15.87), 6th place finish in the Girls Triple Jump (34-08.00) and 8th place finish in the Girls Long Jump (16-03.00). A walk-off single left the Riverside Panthers on the wrong end of a 2-1 extra inning defeat to Bethel Park Thursday afternoon.
