New Advocacy Group Formed to Preserve Ewing Park, Oppose Planned Softball Field

A new advocacy group has been formed to preserve Ewing Park. The Citizens for Ewing Park Preservation (CEPP) group was announced during Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors Committee Meeting Monday evening. Chairperson for the group, Karen Mancini, is a resident of Beatty Street, which faces the old Ewing Park School property where the district has proposed and plans to construct a girls softball field. Playoff Bound Lady Wolverines Knock Off Beaver Falls 46-40

The playoff-bound Lady Wolverines knocked off Beaver Falls 46-40 Monday evening during its senior night game. Ellwood City pulled away in the second half after trailing at halftime. Kayla Jones scored a team-high 15 points, including 9-16 free throws. The junior connected on 7-10 free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Wolverines secure the crucial section victory. Fellow junior Delaney Sturgeon scored 13 points and connected on three 3-pointers in the victory. Senior Claire Noble finished with seven points. Ellwood City Family Center Offering Six-Week Indoor Soccer Session

The Ellwood City Family Center on the North Side of Ellwood City will be offering a six week, indoor soccer session for grade school kids interested in the game of soccer. “Our goal is to enhance soccer in the community,” says director and coach John DiBuono. “We plan to teach the game of soccer through the development of individual skills, fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship.” The one-hour sessions will take place on Thursday nights beginning on Thursday, February 15th for grades 5 and 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The dates are February 15, 22, 29, and March 7, 14,…

Wolverines Wrestling Finishes 11th Overall At Buckeye Panther Classic

The Ellwood City wrestling team placed 11th overall recently at the Buckeye Local Panther Classic. The team was among 22 teams participating in the tournament at Buckeye Local High School in Ohio on Saturday, January 27th. Gavin McClure and Gabe Lilly each advanced to the championship finals in their respective weight classes to pace the Wolverines team efforts. McClure (132 pounds) was defeated by Jordan Noble (Bridgeport, OH) by pin and Lilly (144 pounds) fell to Max Fortier (Fairmont, WV) by decision in the championships matches. Riverside Baseball Federation 2024 Registration Now Available

Riverside Baseball Federation (RBF) spring registration for its 2024 season is now underway. The Ellwood City girls basketball team used a decisive third quarter to race away from rival Riverside Monday evening and pick-up a 60-31 RivEll Cup victory that secured a Class 3A playoff berth. Roth Erupts For 51 Points, Wolverines Fall To Mohawk

Senior Joseph Roth poured in a career-high 51 points Friday Night but Ellwood City lost in a 82-77 shootout to the section-leading Mohawk Warriors. The 51 points set a school record, breaking the old mark of 48 set by Theron Colao in 2004. Lady Wolverines Knock Off Section Leading Lancers

Just days after the boys basketball team defeated Neshannock, the Ellwood City girls basketball team went on the road and upset the section-leading Lady Lancers 67-60 Thursday night. Five Wolverines scored in double figures in the sound victory as Ellwood City led throughout the contest in handing the Lancers (11-5 Overall, 5-1 Section 3A-1) their first section loss. Roth Scores 31, Wolverines Knock Off Neshannock

Joseph Roth scored 31 points, including 23 in the second half, as Ellwood City knocked off Neshannock 54-47 Tuesday night at Lincoln High School. The victory avenges a December loss to the Lancers and puts Ellwood City (10-6 Overall, 5-2 Section 3A-1) only one section victory behind section co-leaders Mohawk and Neshannock. UPDATE (01/22/24): The Ellwood City boys basketball game against New Brighton that was postponed will be made up on January 31st  According to information made available by the school district, the Ellwood City boys basketball game scheduled at New Brighton Friday night has been postponed. No further information or reschedule date has been announced as of noon on Friday.
