Local Districts Receive Safe School Grants

Several Beaver and Lawrence county school districts in the 47th Senatorial District were selected to receive state Safe School Initiative grants for the training and compensation of school resource officers and to prevent and reduce violent incidents through programs and security equipment, according to Senator Elder Vogel. The local funds were part of $6.5 million in competitive grants announced by the Pennsylvania Department of Education on Friday, November 4. Mayor Advisory Meeting

Mayor Court met with his Advisory Committee on October 27, 2016 in council Chambers. Discussion revolved around illegal drug and narcotics in the area, including overdoes that are taking place in local communities throughout Pennsylvania.  Mayor Court advised that the recent Drug Take-Back Program held in October was very successful in our community.  Parking and Trick-or-Treat night in our area were also topics of discussion. False Claims Lead Newspaper to Drop Gibbons Endorsement Paper says Gibbons Manufactured Details

In a rarely seen action, The Beaver County Times today rescinded its endorsement of State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, saying he manufactured details about his opponent that he then attributed to their reporting. “We cannot support a candidate who attributes information to us that we did not write,” said Times Executive Editor Lisa Micco. The newspaper said it had planned to publish its endorsement this week, but pulled the endorsement and will now endorse challenger Aaron Bernstine. “Toys for Tots” Collection Spot at Senator Vogel’s Office

State Senator Elder Vogel, Jr.’s office will be collecting toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” program through December 9th. Gibbons announces $225,000 grant for Camp Allegheny improvements

HARRISBURG, Oct. 24 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, announced the Salvation Army will be able to make $1.4 million in improvements to Camp Allegheny, Wayne Township, Lawrence County, thanks to a $225,000 Commonwealth Financing Authority award that Gibbons secured this week. “The camp plays host for adventures of all ages, children to senior citizens. The camp is a vital part of our community and I know this state investment in camp activities will provide fun-filled opportunities, spiritual growth and lifetime memories,” Gibbons said. Police Issues Discussed at the Council Meeting

Several police-force related questions and comments were brought up at this weeks council meeting. Foremost, Judy Dici, one of the council members, asked when the Borough plans to hire a part time officer to help remedy the overtime hours some of the officers are currently getting; according to what was discussed at the meeting, the Borough is still reviewing applications and remain active in the process of hiring a part time officer.
