February Mayor’s Advisory Meeting

On February 23, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee met in council Chambers; parking problems were discussed, especially vehicles parking on corners posing difficulties to drivers. Also discussed were the All Terrain Vehicles on city streets. Mayor Court reported that Jozek is in poor health and commented that, “there will never be another K9 quite like Jozek”. The fight against drugs continues and there have been 375 arrests since Mayor Court took office. Bernstine to Host District Office Open House

ELLWOOD CITY – Rep. Medical Company Buys Old L&N Building

With the ongoing concern of the hospital potentially closing, many Ellwood residents are thankful to hear that medical companies are still investing in the local community. Council awarded the sale of the old Ellwood City owned L&N building located in Ellport to Worksite Medical, proceeding their bid of $375,000 for the property. The building was named after its original occupant, a North-Wales based company, Leeds & Northup, which relocated in 1997, leaving the property to industrial authorities until 2010 when the Borough took ownership of the property. Bernstine Announces State Funding to Help Area Veterans

ELLWOOD CITY — Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced today that three organizations in the 10th District dedicated to assisting local veterans received more than $15,000 in grant funding through the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Trust Fund (VTF). The Beaver County Office of Veterans Affairs received $7,500, and the Lawrence County Office of Veterans Affairs received $3,000 to enhance outreach for veterans. Property Tax/Rent Rebates Now Available at District Offices

Applications are now available for the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program and qualified individuals should file as soon as possible, according to Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. The maximum standard rebate is $650. The program is open to state residents age 65 or older; widows and widowers age 50 or older; and, 100 percent disabled people 18 or older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, with half of Social Security income excluded. Bernstine Announces State Funding for 18 Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Companies

HARRISBURG – Eighteen fire and ambulance organizations in the 10th Legislative District have been awarded more than $235,000 in funding through the 2016-17 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program, Rep.
