Buckle Up PA “Click It Or Ticket” Action Plan Enforced Through June 7

A Buckle Up PA ‘Click It or Ticket’ action plan was announced this week with enforcement running from May 18 through June 7, 2020. According to a press release, the mobilization will focus 50% of their enforcement funding on seat belt enforcement on unbelted crash roadways. Buckle Up PA (BUPA) will fund up to 350 LEAs for the 3-week mobilization. The plan is designed to increase Pennsylvania’s seat belt usage rate by optimizing the use of grant funds, focus enforcement and to increase the number of OP citations issued. POLICE: Overnight Stabbing Will Lead To Arrest Warrants

An overnight altercation sent one person to the hospital after a stabbing at a residence on Hillside Avenue in Ellwood City on Saturday, April 25. According to an Ellwood City Police report, at approximately 1:30 a.m. a known suspect assaulted a victim with a knife after becoming involved in an altercation at the Beaver County residence. The altercation involved a female, ex-boyfriend, boyfriend, friend of the ex-boyfriend, and another individual related to the female who intervened in altercation or were directly involved in altercation. State Police Releases Non-Life-Sustaining Businesses Enforcement Totals

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania State Police released data on actions taken against non-life-sustaining businesses that failed to comply with Governor Tom Wolf’s order closing their physical locations. Enforcement began on Monday, March 23, 2020. On Thursday, Pennsylvania State Police issued a total of 21 warnings, bringing their week total to 78 warnings.  No citations have been reported. A total of four warnings have been reported in the troop coverage area that includes Ellwood City.  The coverage area consists of Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. New Castle Man Pleads Guilty to Cocaine-Related Drug Charges

PITTSBURGH – A former resident of New Castle, PA pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of violating federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today. Wesley Cox, also known as Michael Deshawn Carter, age 38, pleaded guilty to two counts before United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that from 2017 through May 2019, Cox participated in a conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and 280 grams or more of cocaine base, in the form commonly known as crack. POLICE: Ellwood Police Seeking Uni-Mart Robbery Suspect

According to the Ellwood City Police Department Facebook account (@EllwoodCityPD), the police are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a suspect wanted for an armed robbery, which occurred on Monday morning, March 9, 2020, at approximately 5:00 a.m. The suspect entered the Uni-Mart Convenience Store located at the intersection of Sixth Street and Beaver / Factory Avenue’s in Ellwood City and forced the clerk to open the cash register. POLICE: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. According to a criminal complaint, a series of fraudulent activities resulted in charges of identity theft and receiving stolen property. State police were notified of the activities that took place on the victims debit card while the victim was hospitalized between the dates of December 7 and December 16, 2019. Ellwood City Council Hires Home Blood Services Company to Test DUI Suspects

Ellwood City Council voted to implement an agreement for services for blood toxicology testing following DUI arrests. Monday night council voted unanimously to hire Becky’s Home Blood Services at a rate of $50 per venipuncture. The move comes after the closing of the Ellwood City Medical Center. Since the closing of the hospital, local officers were forced to travel at least 30 minutes to area facilities for the DUI testing. Fatal Accident Reported On Route 288 In Wayne Township

According to a Pittsburgh news outlet, a 68-year-old was killed as a result of a fatal head-on collision this morning in Wayne Township. KDKA reports state police announced the crash occurred just after 5:00 a.m. on Route 288, Wampum Road between Wampum and Ellwood City, at the intersection with Jockey Moore Road. Evans City Man Pleads Guilty to Robbing NexTier Bank in Zelienople

PITTSBURGH, PA- A former resident of Evans City, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to a bank robbery charge, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today. Chad Vaughan, 33, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon. In connection with the guilty plea, the Court was informed that Vaughan robbed the NexTier Bank, located at 226 South Main Street, in Zelienople, on October 23, 2018, of $2,065.00.
