New Social Services Sign Donated

A new sign was donated and installed at the Divine Grace Parish Ministerium Social Services Office at 311 Lawrence Avenue in July, Holy Redeemer Parish merged with St Ferdinand in Cranberry and St Gregory in Zelienople to create Divine Grace Parish. The Social Services sign was donated by the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council 11389 of Ellwood City. The Divine Grace Parish Ministerium Social Services Office handles approximately 350 clients from the Ellwood City area as well as coordinating appropriate assistance with area churches in the Ministerium. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

RETAIL THEFT: Mark Butler, 24, of Ellwood City, is charged with Retail Theft and Resisting Arrest after an incident on October 4th. According to the criminal complaint, and at approximately 11:45 p.m., Ellwood City Police responded to the Ellwood City Seven-Eleven for a reported theft. The store clerk told officers a male with dread locks had stolen a pack of cigars and was seen walking east on Wampum Avenue. Officers later located the male fitting the description and attempted to stop the man later identified as Butler. Butler would not listen and continued walking and yelling at officers. PENNDOT Announces Country Club Bridge Replacement Project

PennDot Engineering District 11-0 will be replacing the bridge over the Connoquenessing Creek on S.R. 0065 (Mercer Road) in a project set to commence in the summer of 2025. The project is currently in the preliminary engineering phase with the expectation of starting the final design phase in early 2023. The project is anticipated to let (i.e. bids for construction to be opened) during the first half of 2024 with the traffic detour implemented in the summer of 2025. Ellwood City Receives Nearly $6 Million in PENNVEST Funding

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) today awarded $6 million in funding to the Borough of Ellwood City to make improvements to its existing sewer infrastructure, according to Senator Elder Vogel (R-47) and State Representative Aaron Bernstine in respective statements The project will involve the construction of a new pump station with a sewage grinder, approximately 2,300 feet of 18-inch gravity sewer line to the new pump station, an additional 5,200 feet of 18-inch force main to the borough’s existing primary lift station, and a screening unit replacement at the primary lift station. Fire Department to Start Advanced Life Support Program with Ellwood City Community Health Foundation Funding, Council Support

The Ellwood City Community Health Foundation presented the Ellwood City Fire Department a check for $175,000 during Monday’s council meeting. Council voted unanimously to advertise an ordinance creating an Advanced Life Support Program, as well as an agreement that the program will be partially funded by the Health Foundation’s funding. In an additional move to staff the program and provide services to the residents of Ellwood City, council established the wage for part-time paramedics and a full-time paramedic captain as $20 per hour. Annual Richard Hogue Memorial Blood Drive Scheduled For November 12

The annual Richard Hogue Memorial Blood Drive has been announced and scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Hogue, who was 28, was murdered on November 16, 2013. At the time of his death, he resided in Enon Valley, worked for Nick Mars Construction as a carpenter, and was a member of the Ellwood City Eagles Club. Three Lawrence County Men Among Seven Charged With Drug Trafficking Conspiracy

PITTSBURGH – Eliot Gentry, Daivahn Brown, Donald Jeter, William McCree, Teqwan Scott, Donald Snowden, and Kailin Stewart have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for narcotics trafficking, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced today. The Indictment, returned on Oct. 11 and yesterday, charges the seven defendants with conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distribute at least 100 grams of fluorofentanyl, 40 grams of fentanyl, five kilograms of cocaine, 28 grams of cocaine base, and a quantity of methamphetamine, from May 2021 to October 2022.
