Ellwood City Earth Day Event Committee Seeks Vendors

The annual Lawrence County Earth Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 20th at Ewing Park, Ellwood City from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The planning committee is seeking vendors to sell environmentally friendly products. Vendor products from previous years include goats milk soaps, rug rags, reusable tupperware, wood crafts, beeswax lotion bars, soaps, candles, plants, jams, herbs, goats milk lotion, and skincare products. In addition to the vendors, the event will have food, a Trashion show, an Art Show, musicians, and activities for children. Wild World of Animals will be returning with exotic animals at 1:15pm. Ellwood Quality Steels Celebrates Milestone

ELLWOOD Quality Steels (EQS) on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, celebrated a significant milestone by producing the 250,000th heat in the melt shop that opened in 1985. A heat is a batch of steel that is melted in the 45-ton electric arc furnace and poured into molds to create bottom-poured ingots. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT: On February 14th at approximately 2:30 a.m., PA State Police were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Reserve Square, Wayne Township for a report theft from a motor vehicle. According to the report, a known victim, 29-year-old male, reported that he had reviewed video surveillance of his property and there was an unknown actor(s) observed near his vehicles. After checking his property, it was discovered that items were stolen from his flatbed tow truck and from the tool box on his trailer the report relates. Lincoln Graduate Accepted to Prestigious Drum and Bugle Corps

Zion Bunney is making his Drumming Dreams come true, but he needs a little help from his friends … the Ellwood City Community. Upstart Manufacturers Coalition Awarded $236,000 Grant from PA Dept of Labor and Industry

MERCER – A collaboration of local manufacturers, including two from Ellwood City, working together to address shared workforce development challenges was awarded a $236,786 grant from the Industry Partnership program of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. The award was announced by Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer). The Lawrence Mercer Manufacturers Coalition (LMMC) was formed in 2023 by founding members Berner International, Blair Strip Steel Company, ELLWOOD, G.W. Becker, Inc., Hall Industries and Wheatland Steel Processing. Council Approves YMCA Swimming Pool Management Agreement with No Cost Increase to Community

Ellwood City Borough Council approved the 2024 YMCA swimming pool management agreement for $13,800. Borough Manager Kevin Swogger said there will be no cost increase for community members to use the pool this year and the borough will be releasing more details regarding the pool’s 2024 season as well as activities planned including youth parties and featured DJs. Swogger said the borough is also working on securing the America250PA grant, which helps organizations conducting projects that improve the community and engages volunteers.
