ECASD’s Board of Directors Approve Traffic Study at Site of Proposed Softball Field

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors approved a traffic study of the Ewing Park Property where a softball field is proposed to be built during Thursday’s regular meeting. The study will be conducted by Gateway Engineers, at a cost not to exceed $4,000. All directors except for Norman Boots, Kathy Galbreath, and Kevin Boariu voted in favor of the study, and Director Claire Fauzey was absent from the meeting. Galbreath asked if the study is necessary at this time, and Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley said that the zoning board will require the study so doing it now…


PHOTOS: PA Turnpike Beaver River Project Continues Into Its Next Stage

People in the area will see some piers and beams are in place as the project continues into its next stage. The project is currently in stage four of the eight project stages. Turnpike travel lanes have been shifted southward to accommodate construction activities for the new bridge and roadway alignment. The contractor has completed some of the piers for the new westbound Beaver River bridge crossing. Ellwood City School District Offices and LHS Offices Closed August 5-9

In a temporary closure to help address plumbing upgrades, the Ellwood City Area School District Offices and Lincoln High School Offices will be closed for a week beginning Monday, August 5th. “We are closing because water has to be turned off the entire week for plumbing upgrades,” said Wes Shipley, Superintendent, in an email. Franklin Township To Host 11th Annual National Night Out Event

Come on out and mingle with fellow community members! Franklin Township will be holding their 10th Annual National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 6th, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City. There will be free activities for children, fire safety, CPR training, prize giveaways, and food vendors. The annual event will host approximately 40 vendors for the event. Wampum Resident Indicted for Producing and Possessing Child Sexual Abuse Material

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Wampum, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of Production of Material Depicting the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and Possession of Material Depicting the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced today. The three-count Indictment named Thomas Hyatt-Baney, 21, formerly of Wampum, Pennsylvania, as the sole defendant. According to the Indictment, Hyatt-Baney, on or about May 28, 2023, and June 25, 2023, produced visual depictions of the sexual exploitation of a minor. Borough of Ellwood City Utility Office Updating Payment System

The Borough of Ellwood City utility office will be getting a new system starting July 31st, 2024, with an estimated end date of August 7th, 2024 according to information made available by the borough. During the transition only checks and money orders will be accepted. The office will still be open normal business hours during the transition. As always, the drop box outback will be available.
