Senator Elder Vogel Jr. (R-47) has launched a webpage, SenatorElderVogel.com/Save-PA, where taxpayers can offer their suggestions to cut state spending as an alternative to Governor Wolf’s tax increases. “Like all families and businesses, state government needs to cut costs and set priorities when budgets are tight,” Senator Vogel said. Committee to Hold Hearing on Fireworks Bill

The Senate Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 10, to gather testimony on a bill that would permit the sale of fireworks to Pennsylvania residents, according to Committee Chairman Senator Elder Vogel (R-47). The hearing, set for 9 a.m. in Room 8E-B in the State Capitol East Wing, will focus on Senate Bill 1055, legislation introduced by Senator Vogel and his colleagues Senators Don White and Gene Yaw that would legalize the sale and use of consumer fireworks for Pennsylvanians. Federal Marshals Apprehend New Castle Attempted Homicide Suspect in Ellport

Federal marshals apprehended a New Castle man charged with attempted homicide in an Ellport house last Tuesday, Feb. 2. Shaquone Lockett, 20, was wanted by New Castle police since an incident on Oct. 12. Lockett was charged with attempt to commit homicide, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, and recklessly endangering another person. All charges are first degree felonies. According to the criminal complaint filed with District Judge Melissa Amodie, Lockett shot Ortarius Williams, 19, of New Castle, in the face with a shotgun. Local Resident to Be Featured Tonight “Get Marty” Television Series

Local resident Joseph Gasper will be featured tonight on KDKA during the popular Marty Griffin series, “Get Marty”, a segment that appears on the six o’clock news. 97 year-old Gasper, one of the area’s last surviving veterans, was injured on Dec. 7, 1941 at the attack on Pearl Harbor. His family had tried several times 18 months ago to get a chair lift installed, so he could safely go downstairs from his bedroom to the rest of the house. Inmetco and Parent Company Horsehead File for Bankruptcy

Horsehead Holding Corp. and its affiliated companies, including Ellwood City-based Inmetco, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday, Feb. 2. According to published sources, Horsehead missed a $1.9 million payment and saw its stock drop more than 90 percent. Horsehead Holding Corp. is based in Pittsburgh and owns seven affiliated facilities, including Inmetco, a battery recycling plant. In a press release on Jan. 22, Horsehead announced it was temporarily idling its zinc plant in Mooresboro*, N.C. The plant opened in June 2014 after Horsehead shut down a facility in Beaver County. Police: Endangering Welfare of Children

Endangering Welfare of Children An Ellwood City man was charged with endangering the welfare of a child following an incident on Jan. 25. According to to the criminal complaint, Bronson Lane, 26, of Wampum Ave., was walking with his one-year old daughter on Madison Ave while the child was barefoot and insufficiently dressed. The temperature was around 35 degrees. Prior to this, Lane had assaulted his girlfriend while she was holding his daughter. After forcing the victim to hand over the child, he proceeded outside.
