Man Arrested In Perry Township Homicide Investigation

Yohance Mercer-Huffman, 28, was taken into custody on Saturday, October 21st at approximately 4:00 p.m. in connection with the September homicide on River Road, Perry Township that left a Corry, PA woman dead. According to a police report, and on October 20th, PA State Police filed criminal charges in Magisterial District Court 53-3-01 against Mercer-Huffman, in connection with the shooting of Julie Anne Wegmiller and her husband Edwin Wegmiller. Annual Richard Hogue Memorial Blood Drive Scheduled For November 21

The annual Richard Hogue Memorial Blood Drive has been announced and scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. Hogue was only 28 when his life was taken on November 16, 2013. At the time of his death, he resided in Enon Valley, worked for Nick Mars Construction as a carpenter, and was a member of the Ellwood City Eagles Club. SIMPLE ASSAULT: James Hammond, 28, of Wampum, is charged with Simple Assault and Terroristic Threats after an incident on October 14th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 10:20 p.m., PA State Police responded to an inactive domestic altercation at a residence on Guy Way, Wayne Township to be informed a female had been physically attacked by her boyfriend and that he vacated in a grey car. The Borough of Ellwood City is proud to announce the launch of a Borough wide Food Drive to support the Holy Redeemer food bank for the holidays. Ewing Park Residents Implore Ellwood City Borough Council to Consider Impact of Planned Softball Field

Residents of Beatty Street and Wood Avenue continued to oppose a planned softball field in their Ewing Park neighborhood during Monday night’s regular meeting of the Ellwood City Borough Council. Although there were no motions on the agenda regarding the field, a dedicated group of residents attended to express their concerns. Karen Mancini who lives on Beatty Street asked Council to consider putting up signs on the streets surrounding the field, should the stadium be built, that would allow only residents and guests of residents to park there. Natural Gas Odor Forces Brief Evacuation At Lincoln High School

An odor of natural gas detected in a Lincoln High School storage room Thursday morning, forcing a brief evacuation of the high school. This according to the Ellwood City Area School District and superintendent Wes Shipley. “We evacuated the building to Hartman while Columbia Gas and the local fire department investigated,” said Shipley in an emailed statement Friday. Both Columbia Gas and the fire department noted that the levels of gas in the air were minute and were not at an explosive level.
