Class of 1954 May Meeting

Pudue La Cava hosted the 1954 Lincoln Class “Life is a Beach” committee at her Mt Vernon Drive home on Thursday, May 12 at 4 p.m. Co-chairmen Paul Abraham and James Spielvogel presided over the session that began with lunch provided by Ann Amadio, Arlene “Pinky” Maielli, Jan Keenan, Clemmy Sirimarco, Ilene Gardner and LaCava. Dessert featured a decorated birthday cake, no candles, made by Garnder in honor of Spielvogel’s May birthday. Abraham expressed appreciation for all the work and planning the committee has accomplished. James Gillespie presented the fund-raising report, noting that June 30 will end this event’s ticket…

Photos: Lincoln High School Class of 2016 Commencement

Lincoln High School awarded 117 diplomas to the Class of 2016 during graduation ceremonies yesterday in the high school auditorium. The class valedictorians, Nikol Damato and Paige Mason, gave speeches, along with student council president Carter MacMurdo and school board president Renee Pitrelli. MacMurdo, a high honor graduate, is attending the u.S. Naval Academy, which requires a rigorous application process including a nomination from a U.S. Congress member, U.S. Senator, the president or vice president. Police: Ellwood Sexual Offender Fails to Register

Failure to Register as a Sexual Offender An Ellwood City man was charged with failing to register as a sexual offender. According to the criminal complaint, Michael Paul Henry, 35, has not checked in with the state police Megan’s Law Registration Unit since March 10, 2016 and is required to do so once a month. Investigating officers checked Henry’s residence at 224 Lawrence Ave. and saw Henry through a window, but  the offender did not answer the door. On May 26, Henry was charged with failure to comply with registration of a sexual offender by Magistrate Jerry Cartwright. Simple Assault…

Corona D’Italia May Meeting

Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 held their annual Mother-Daughter-Scholarship dinner Wednesday, May 4 at 5 p.m. at the Wolverine Restaurant. Members and guests were greeted and registered by Patti Kuhn, Maura Greco and their mother the lodge treasurer, Louise Vitullo. The lodge sentinel, Lois DiFrischia, directed the seating of the scholarship honorees, guests and members. Each place setting was presented with favors made by Orator Valerie Valentino. Mistress of Ceremony Mary Quintanilla welcomed all in attendance to begin the festivities. Youth Dance at Ewing Park Pool on Monday

The Ellwood City Borough will host a youth dance at the Ewing Park swimming pool on Monday, June 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. The dance is for grades 6-8 and is the second year for the event. Admission is $3. The concession stand will be open, and there will be chaperones and a DJ. “The dance is an excellent way to celebrate the start of summer vacation,” borough council member Marilyn Mancini, one of the event’s organizers, said.

Senator Vogel Seeking Local Photos for 2017 District Calendar

Senator Elder Vogel is calling on residents to submit photos capturing the spirit and beauty of the 47th Senatorial District, with the top entries to be featured in his 2017 calendar. Contestants can submit two photos per category (spring, summer, fall and winter). The top three vote-getters in each group will serve as a featured month in Senator Vogel’s 2017 “Scenes from the 47th Senatorial District Calendar.” The contest is open to all individuals, children and adults, but photos must have been taken within the boundaries of the 47th District. The contest will remain open for submissions until Aug. 31….
