Chewton VFD Ladies Auxiliary Celebrates 70 Years of Community Service

The Chewton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary celebrated a milestone this year, 70 years of community service, with a dinner honoring the three surviving charter members, Barbara Barr, Lois Chappell, and Frances Sbarro. Beginning on October 20th 1953, by a group of women, some who were the wives of firemen, knew there was a need for their department and community and came together to do their part to help the department and the purpose they served through financial and moral support. Traditional fall temperatures met the many participants and onlookers who packed downtown Ellwood City on Saturday as part of the annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

DUI/CRASH/EVADING POLICE: Isiah Carr, 28, of Ellwood City, is facing 17 charges after a vehicle crash into trailer, home during police chase on October 14th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 11:05 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence on Guy Way, Wayne Township for a welfare check. One scene police observed Carr slumped over the steering wheel of a silver Nissan Altima, parked in a driveway. Special Activities Group of the Holy Redeemer Church Celebrates 60th Anniversary

On Sunday, October 22, 2023, members of the Special Activities Group of the Holy Redeemer Church met to celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Fifty four members and their guests were present and enjoyed a meal of chicken marsala, beef tips, meatballs and pasta. John Biondi presented a history of the Special Activities Group (fondly called SAG). The Group was created in 1963 by parishioners who wanted to assist in funding non-budgeted items the school and church would need during a year.
