Local Ellwood Resident Sings with Famous Voice Contestant

When people think of talent and fame, they often think of Hollywood -not so much Ellwood, but one Ellwood resident is unexpectedly changing that view. With just over two decades of dedication put towards performing arts, Jamie Hulick a native Ellwoodian, was recently asked by a contestant on The Voice to be featured on his newly published Christmas album. Hulick is a 27 year old who has been singing since she was a child. Several annual Ellwood City Christmas events took place this weekend including the greatly anticipated Light Up Night on Friday evening, the Christmas Parade Saturday midday, and Christmas in the Park also on Saturday, in the evening. Ellwood City Hospital Basket Raffle

The Ellwood City Hospital Basket Raffle will be Friday, Dec. 9 Drawings will begin at 1p.m. in the Hospital Cafeteria Dining Room. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and Ellwood City Relay for Life. Winners do not need to be present.


Ellwood City Scam Charity Drive

Many Ellwood residents have reported receiving a phone call from a gentleman asking for donations to the “Ellwood City Police Department Holiday Fund.” Mayor Court warns “do not give money to this caller, this is 100% a scam. There is absolutely no such charity for the Ellwood City Police Department and the Police Department would not ask for donations over the phone.” The scammer has even offered to meet in person to receive donations. Anyone who receives a call like this is encouraged to report it immediately to authorities. As of now, there are no leads to who the scammer…


Vietnam Veterans Honorary Pins Available at Senator Vogel’s Offices

Senator Elder Vogel Jr. encourages all veterans who served on active duty in the United States Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975 to visit his district offices to receive a special 50th Anniversary commemorative Vietnam Veterans’ lapel pin. Used Needles Litter Public Park According to the police report, on Nov. 28 a juvenile came to the station to report that he had found a syringe at the Community Park in the 500 Block of Lawrence Ave. An officer accompanied the young man to the scene and the syringe was recovered, and upon further searching, three more syringes were found. Light Up Night Event Schedule

Light Up Night will be Friday, Dec. 2 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. in Ellwood’s community plaza. The lighting of the tree is scheduled for 6:30p.m. The finale to the evening will be a free public showing of the movie Elf, hosted at Lincoln High’s Auditorium starting at 8:15p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 4 there will be a Christmas Parade on Lawrence Ave. at 3:30p.m. and at 5:30p.m. the first night of Christmas in the Ewing Park will commence- free visits with Santa and carriage rides will be provided courtesy of the event hosts.

Suicide Prevention Class

Ellwood City Hospital Behavioral Health Unit will be hosting a QPR training course for Lawrence County residents interested in combating the 10th leading cause of death in the nation, suicide. QPR stands for question, persuade, and refer; these are the three basic principals taught by professionals on how to potentially save a life.
