Youth Development Center in Shenango Sold to Islamic Consulting Firm

After laying abandoned for several years, the 145-acre state-owned property housing the former Youth Development Center in Shenango Township has been sold to a Newark, New Jersey based Islamic consulting firm called HIRA. Out of three total bids on the property, HIRA was the highest and now the public is curious to know what the potential business plans on doing with the space. Ellwood City Summer Playground Program

Children ages 5-13 will be meeting weekdays from 10a.m.-2p.m. at the Ewing Park shelter #5 for the borough’s Summer Playground Program, starting June 12-August 10 (excluding June 29-July 4 for the Arts and Crafts Festival) and will be partaking in activities such as kayaking, yoga, and other summer activities. Celebration of the Arts Event

The Ellwood City Area Public Library is hosting its second annual “Celebration of the Arts” event in July, with this year’s theme centering around local artists and their work. A variety of mediums will be featured, including painting and drawing, wood work, fabric art and more. “Art on the Avenue,” sponsored by the Library Anniversary Committee, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 28th, and will be very similar in nature to the “Author Fair” held last year. Vogel Applauds Bipartisan Passage of Historic Pension Reform

Today (June 5) the Senate approved legislation reforming Pennsylvania’s two largest public pension systems, the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS)  and the State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS). Ellwood City Homeowners Reminded to Follow Property Standards

A press release was issued by the Borough office to remind residents that failure to comply with the minimum property standards could result in citations for code violation. Hartman Students to Showcase Robotic Creations at Public Event

The fifth and sixth grade students from the Hartman Arts and Bot Summer School Club will be showcasing their work Friday June 9th from 9:30-11AM at Ellwood City Public Library. Animated robotic animals from the picture book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do See? by Erie Carle will be on display. Mentored by teachers, Alan Marsh, Matt Skoczylas, and Scott Setzenfand, students built robots from cardboard and craft material. Using a “Hummingbird Kit” circuit board, they programmed the robots to light up and move! Borough Utility Collection Office Closed June 5-9

According to a press release made available this morning, the Borough of Ellwood City Utility Collection Office will be closed from June 5 – 9, 2017 for training. The Borough has updated their software and it is necessary, in order to better serve our customers, to close the office for this purpose. If you require services for utilities, shelter rentals, or other related matters, please contact the Borough Secretary’s office at 724-758-7777. PPA Factors, Energy Costs and Consumption Comparison for Billings March 2017-June 2017 and Corresponding Previous Year

The attached information is being provided in order to inform Ellwood City Electric customers of the effect the reduction in the Transmission and Capacity charges set by PJM has had upon the Rate Adjustment (PPA Factor) and customer billings during the months of March 2017 through the upcoming billing in June 2017. Comparisons of PPA components (Energy Purchased, American Municipal Power-Power Charges, as well as Transmission and Capacity Charges) were used. The Rate Adjustment is added to the electric bill of each user, Residential, Commercial and Industrial. The March 2017 Rate Adjustment was 2.40 cents per kWh while in 2016…

Teddy Bear Run to Benefit Akron Children’s Hospital

The God Chasers Motorcycle Club is taking donations for their Teddy Bear Run event to benefit children at the Akron Children’s Hospital.
