PHOTOS: Touch a Truck Event

The Riverside nonprofit organization, ROAR, hosted a “Touch a Truck” event yesterday as part of their annual fundraising activities. Laura Zelch, a mother of three who attend Riverside, is one of the founders of the organization and thought a “Touch a Truck” event would be a unique and fun way to get the community, especially those with children, interested in the event. “We reached out to our contacts and put together an event we thought would appeal to the children in the community. Traveling Baseball Team Conducts Ewing Park Clean Up

Below is a photo of the Jeff Potter Baseball Tour. They are a traveling Baseball team that travels throughout PA, Maryland and West Virginia doing community service and playing baseball games for different communities. Jeff Potter is originally from Ellport Borough and was an exceptional Baseball Player. Today the Potter Traveling team conducted a clean up at the Ewing Park Nature Trail followed by lunch and drinks compliments from Red Hot, McDonald’s, and Johnny’s Pizza. They will play at Sanders Field tonight at 6pm and then travel throughout different parts of Pennsylvania before heading back to Maryland. Submitted photo


Wayne Township Awards Youngblood as Lowest Bidder for Paving Project

As part of the Wayne Township monthly meeting, the street paving bids were reviewed and a motion was made to award the lowest bidder, Youngblood Paving, as the contracted company. The township received a total of five bids (see below), with Youngblood being the lowest, offering $18.50/’. The company will be paving 2,300′ of Old Pitts Road for $42,550.00 and 3,000′ of Camp Allegheny for $55,500.00 for the total amount of $98,050.00. Finishing Camp Allegheny was put on the agenda to finalize in 2018. The township also received a grant for Slippery Rock Drive in the amount of $7,000.

Shots Fired This Morning on 13th Street According to the police report, this morning around 3a.m. police were dispatched to the Pounds residence on 13th Street for a shots fired call. Dispatch gave a description of a white SUV with a loud muffler who shot at the compound. Three neighbors described the vehicle and said the vehicle was stopped in the street and a male was outside walking around when he fired three shots towards the residence, he then tried to get back into the car but the door would not open so he had to hang on to the…


Stars and Stripes Dance

The Ellwood Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Stars and Stripes Dance on July 22 for the public to enjoy. The Dante DiThomas Band plays swing music, dress is casual and military personnel are encouraged to wear their military ensemble. On Tuesday, August 1st, neighborhoods throughout Ellwood City are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “34th Annual Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce, will involve over 16,500 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world. VIDEO: Bernstine Presents Next Steps in Hereford Manor Project

Yesterday, State Rep. Aaron Bernstine discussed the Hereford Manor project with representatives of the PA Fish and Boat Commission. Before Bernstine took office, the project was introduced to reopen the two lakes at Hereford Manor – previously Pennsylvania’s largest fishing property – after they were closed due to the dams questionable stability. He presented financial and public interest information to the representatives, including a petition with over three thousand signatures in favor of reopening the fishing hot-spot. The project is expected to cost upwards of 20 million dollars to complete, but with nearly $65,000 already saved up in private funds…


Ellwood City Man Facing Felony Charge for Injury-Causing Hit and Run

According to the criminal complaint, Michael Ray Magill Jr., 38, of Eidenmiller Lane, has been charged by state police as a result of causing serious bodily injury during a crash and fleeing the scene. On June 2, an officer was dispatched to the area near 2590 Chewton Wurtemburg Road for a report of a two vehicle crash, in addition the officer was advised that multiple subjects fled from the scene. Community Members Encouraged to Partake in Ellwood City Clean Up Day

On Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 11a.m. – 2p.m., Mayor Anthony J. Court in conjunction with the Jeff Potter Baseball Tour will have an Ellwood City Clean Up Day.  This is a “Community Wide” event and everyone is invited to participate. Those participating will meet at the Ewing Park Pool Parking Lot prior to 11:00 am. After the clean-up, those participating will be at 1:45 p.m. at the Lions Club Shelter, inside Ewing Park. Vests, gloves and bags will be available for the clean-up and drinks and a lite snack will be provided by McDonalds, Johnny’s and Red Hot.
