Children’s Art Camp: ‘Art Camp is Torture, this is Fun!’

Marianne Hilke, a long-time art enthusiast and instructor, is teaching the four-day-long children’s art camp at Daysprings which started Monday. The camp is from 10-11:45a.m. with a snack break intermission. Each day the children watch a short video about a famous artist which is followed by art projects done with graphite, pastel, crayon and colored pencil. Ride to Benefit Special Needs Children

The God Chasers Motorcycle Club is hosting their annual ride to benefit children with special needs on July 29, starting at 12p.m. Every penny of the funds raised goes to the Lawrence County Special Olympics. Event organizer Reverend Mike Wimer is a father of a highly functioning 28 year old daughter with down syndrome, and he has been hosting the motorcycle rides for nearly 15 years. “My daughter Morgan has been in the Special Olympics since she was about 10 years old, and watching the event really touched me and my wife’s heart, so I decided I wanted to support…

Third Street Resident Wins Final Beautification Award

On Tuesday, Mayor Anthony J. Court presented to Ronalyn Parsons of 3rd Street, Ellwood City with the 6th and final 2017 Beautification Award Winner sign and gift certificate. The landscape at her families home shows the care and effort put into making the it enjoyable view for others. Mayor Court wants to thank everyone who participated in this annual event. Many nominations were received and he wishes he could award many more residents. Mayor Court wishes to thank those businesses who donated the gift certificates and the Ellwood City Forge for helping with the signs.

Holy Redeemer 51st Annual Bazaar Offers Chance to Win $25,000 Cash Prize

Slippery Rock Man Admits to Possession of Methamphetamine

Frank Joseph Stone, 30, of Slippery Rock is facing charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while operating privilege is suspended. According to the criminal complaint, on June 30, the Ellwood City Police Department was called for an erratic driver coming into Ellwood City through a construction zone. Reports were stating the vehicle was all over the road and had pulled over at a local restaurant. Bernstine Announces $460,000 to Improve Drinking Water in Wampum

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced today that $460,000 in state funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PennVEST) will allow Wampum Borough in Lawrence County to move forward with its plans to improve municipal drinking water. “The quality of water in Wampum has been an issue for many years,” Bernstine said. “I was happy to work with the local elected officials, as well as the state, to expedite the process of this grant. FIRE VIDEO: ‘The House is a Total Loss’

The Ellwood City Fire Department responded “almost immediately” to a fire on the 100 block of Orchard Avenue Thursday evening. “We actually had a truck up the road for a separate call when the fire broke out. Some neighbors ran up to the truck and said 130 was on fire – so we responded almost immediately,” Ellwood City Fire Chief, Rick Meyers stated. Over thirty youth enjoyed a program on yoga presented Tuesday evening by Ashley Smith, a yoga instructor from Ellwood City, as part of the enrichment component added to the youth’s daily arts and crafts projects supervised by Joseph Cioffi. They were given information on the subject and then eagerly participated in several poses such as the Shavasana pose (pictured). The Ellwood City Color Run was such a hit last year that the organizers, Stacie Hackett and Kim Rangel, decided to do it again this year. “It was a huge success last year with over 150 runners – everyone was dosed in color having a great time and we raised a lot of money for the cheerleaders,” Hackett stated.
