Expired Registration Leads to Court Summons

Ellwood City Police Department completed a traffic stop on Joseph Serjak for an expired registration on Aug. 4. Officers approached the vehicle and Serjak immediately stated he had a knife on his waist. Police advised Serjak to keep his hands on the wheel of the vehicle. Serjak was accompanied in the car by Jon Lamzena, both appeared nervous to officers. The officer observed track marks on Serjak’s arms and asked why his registration was expired. Yellow Ribbon Girls Carnival August 11

The Yellow Ribbon Girls, which are based out of Ellwood City, have a Carnival coming up on August 11 with proceeds to benefit the Yellow Ribbon Girls Care Package Postage Fund. Koppel Bridge Updates According to PennDOT:  The $27.58 million Route 351 Koppel Bridge replacement project continues in 2018 with steel erection, and pier and retaining wall construction to the bridge connecting Koppel Borough to North Sewickley Township over Beaver River. Traffic will be maintained on the existing bridge during the construction of the new bridge. An approximate three-month closure with detour will occur in the summer of 2019. Additional work includes signage, pavement markings, drainage, and guiderail installation. PHOTOS: 52nd Annual Bazaar

The 52nd Annual Holy Redeemer Bazaar took place over the weekend, beginning last Wednesday and stretching to Sunday August 4th on the grounds of the Holy Redeemer Parish. The food, the fun and the fireworks make the Bazaar a favorite. This year the bazaar featured a special area for kids ages two to seven called “You’re Incredible Zone,” inspired by Disney’s Pixar movie “The Incredibles.” Nightly entertainment featured performances by a barbershop quartet, a polka group, a contemporary Christian group and others. There were performances by three Ellwood City dance companies Dance Expressions; Studio P; and Diamond Dance Academy.

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458.
