17 Ellwood City Area Students Achieve CCBC 2025 President’s List or Dean’s List

Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) is proud to release 17 names of full-time and part-time Ellwood City area students who achieved either President’s List or Dean’s List honors for the spring 2025 semester. To be named to the President’s List, students must have completed at least 12 hours of credit-bearing courses in which performance grades are awarded and have received a 3.75 grade-point average or above for the semester. Ellwood City Wolves Club Hosts Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner Honoring Eight Scholarship Recipients

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den 11 hosted their annual Scholarship Awards dinner on Wednesday May 28, at 6PM, at the Connequenessing Country Club. The club awards eight scholarships to eight students from the Ellwood City and Riverside School districts. Invocation was offered by Reverend Todd Custer of Christ Presbyterian Church. Club members, students and their families, enjoyed a buffet of carved roast beef, champagne chicken, penne in vodka sauce, mashed redskin potatoes and summer vegetable medley. Life Scout Completes Veterans Memorial Day Project

Life Scout Quinn Smith recently completed an Eagle Scout project that helped showcase a remembrance and reflection that the Memorial Day holiday honors. As part of Troop 806 in Ellwood City, the 17-year-old Lincoln High School Junior set out to check every grave – over 8,600 of them in two Lawrence County cemeteries, Pleasant Hill & Locust Grove, – against the roster of over 1,500 deceased Lawrence & Beaver County Veterans buried there. ELLWOOD is proud to recognize Lincoln High School senior Owen Andrews as the latest recipient of the ELLWOOD Industrial Maintenance Scholarship. Owen was awarded $10,000 to support his continued education in Electro-Mechanical Technology at the New Castle School of Trades. Riv-Ell Business Plans: Traveling Ultrasound Business To Surprises For Outdoor Enthusiasts

Ten Riverside or Lincoln high school students participated in Butler County Community College’s Riv-Ell Entrepreneurship program in 2024-2025. They earned 16 transferrable college credits and BC3’s workplace certificate in entrepreneurship upon completing the program that required a capstone-project business plan. Students presented business plans May 5 in Lincoln’s library. About Riv-Ell’s Class of 2025, their business plans and extra-curricular activities: Shaelyn Freed, Lincoln. “Little Miracle Imaging,” a traveling ultrasound business with 3D and 4D technology. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

RESISTING ARREST: Blake Zeigler, 24, of Ellwood City, is charged with Resisting Arrest, Public Drunkenness, Disorderly Conduct, and Receiving Stolen Property after an incident on March 20th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 12:27 a.m., police located Zeigler stumbling in and out of the roadway near Haig Street, yelling obscenities, and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Upon approach by police Zeigler gave inconsistent statements and continued to shout and harass police and evade approaching officers. Distracted Driving Law Takes Effect Next Week

Harrisburg – In keeping with Governor Shapiro’s commitment to safety on Pennsylvania roads, the Shapiro Administration urged drivers to put down the phone while driving, ahead of the June 5 effective date for “Paul Miller’s Law,” which makes it illegal to use a hand-held cell phone while driving. As part of his mission to provide a safe transportation system for all Pennsylvanians, Governor Josh Shapiro signed Senate Bill 37 into law on June 5, 2024.
