VIDEO: Local Dance Studio Claims National Title

Ellwood City’s very own Diamond Dance Academy was awarded a National Championship title at the 2019 Access Broadway Nationals in New Jersey earlier this month. The dancers left owning the Stage Door Cup, which is presented to America’s Best Debut School. Diamond Dance opened back in 2009 with director Shauna Dorwarth. United Fund Releases First Allocation of 2019 Campaign Funds

Connie MacDonald, president of the Ellwood City United Fund, announced Friday the United Fund would issue its first allocation of collected funds for 2019. MacDonald stated, “ the service agencies will receive reduced allotments due to the fact, we were unable to meet our annual goal set for the campaign of 2019. Each agency will receive about 30% less then in previous years. The board decided not to use its emergency fund that is reserved for disaster relief. The Butterfly Foundation Opens Pop-up Clothing Cupboard

A local non-profit organization, The Butterfly Foundation, will be holding a complimentary kid’s clothing cupboard on Saturday, August 10. The cupboard will have boys and girls gently used clothing ranging from 4T to size 16 in older kids. They will also have shoes and backpacks available. Parents and their kids can “shop” from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ellwood City Moose Lodge. NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a North Sewickley Township father fatally shot his daughter’s boyfriend because he believed he had gotten her “hooked on drugs.” Michael D’Bagio, 41, of Sanger Drive, is charged homicide and aggravated assault after fatally shooting an Ellwood City teenager, 17-year-old Darren Jevcak, after a confrontation outside of Jevcak’s employer in New Castle. According to a criminal complaint, D’Bagio shot Jevack five or six times. When Jevcak came outside, Dbagio shot him in the arm. Six Neglected Dogs Rescued From Ellwood City Home

According to criminal complaints, in January, Humane Officers arrived at a home on 13th Street due to a humane complaint regarding several dogs that were tied outside and being neglected. At approximately 8:00 p.m. officers made contact with homeowner Andrew Johnson, 32, and later the owner of the dogs Joanne Johnson, 54, both of 412 13th Street, Ellwood City. In Johnson’s backyard, six dogs were tied up outside in the freezing weather and were without proper shelter, food, or water. In other words, the dogs were being neglected.
