Ellwood City United Fund Campaign Set To Begin

The Ellwood City United Fund campaign will start on October 1, 2019 and will continue until January 31, 2020. The campaign committee met this past Monday to review the agencies request for the coming year. The committee decided to again this year to set a goal of $50,000.00 to provide funding for the eight agencies they support( Ellwood family center, People in Need, Ellwood City Public Library, LARK Enterprises, Boy & Girl Scouts, Human Services,and Ellwood Education Foundation ). Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County Host Terrarium Workshop

The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County will be hosting a Terrarium Workshop. Participants will learn how to make a terrarium with step-by-step instructions from the Master Gardeners. The cost of the workshop is $15, which includes all materials needed. This will be held Tuesday September 24th at 6:00 pm located at the New Castle Public Library 207 E North St New Castle, Pa 16101. Ellwood City Woman Sentenced to Prison for Probation Violation

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court to 10 months imprisonment followed by three years supervised release after the Court found that she violated her probation by committing perjury at a federal trial, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today. Senior United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Kacie Zito, 33. According to information presented to the court, on June 12, 2019, at the trial of Taurean Potter, Ms. Zito committed perjury when she denied that Potter provided her cocaine that she later sold. Ellwood City School Board Approves Soccer Funding

The Ellwood City School Board voted unanimously Thursday to approve funding of no more than $4,300 to the boys and girls teams for transportation and referee costs. Before the vote, during the visitors comment portion, numerous soccer supporters spoke on behalf of the teams. Jerry Hermann, visitor, told the board saying no is saying no to a dedicated group of kids. “Be encouragers, not discouragers,” Hermann said. Ellwood City School Board to Vote on Soccer Program Funding

The soccer debate continues within the Ellwood City School Board. During the board’s September 9 agenda meeting, board continued the back and forth discussion regarding whether or not funding should be provided to the boys and girls soccer club. Three players from the boys “club” were in attendance. One player Levi Smith spoke on behalf of the team. He assured the board that the team is dedicated to the season as well as growing the roster through recruiting efforts. Bernstine to Announce Legislation on Parole Process for Violent Offenders

ELLWOOD CITY – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced today that he will be introducing legislation which focuses on the parole process for violent offenders. This in the wake of the recent murder of a child in Lawrence County. Bernstine will participate in a press conference held at the Lawrence County Government Center, on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. with Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa regarding Commonwealth of Pennsylvania v.
