ECASD Board Votes to ‘Remove’ Principal, Hire Three Teachers

The Ellwood City Area School District Board of Directors has voted to “restructure” the administration to eliminate the position of one principal and hire three teachers (2nd, 3rd, 5th grades). In a last minute motion, before tabling a vote on the $30 million budget, Director Jean Biehls made the motion to remove the principal. Biehls was joined with yes votes from Board President Renee Pitrelli and Directors Barbara Wilson, Kathleen McCommons, and Norman Boots. PHOTO: 5th Mayor Beautification Award Presented

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented Linda Saxton of Pershing Street the 5th Mayor Beautification Award of 2020. Linda was presented with a yard sign and a dinner certificate from a local restaurant. “Linda did an amazing job on her property,” said Mayor Court in a statement. “Congratulations Linda!” There will be one more award issued in 2020 which Mayor Court will announce soon. POLICE REPORTS: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed by the Ellwood City Police Department. Dog’s Afternoon Out Just like the rest of us, two local dogs decided that enough was enough with the indoors and took to the sidewalks of Ellwood City. On Tuesday, June 23 Bailey and Brandy, two Newfoundland Poodles, were first spotted out of the blue by the viaduct on Second Street. The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. Please call us with the book(s), authors, genre or recommended material you would like to check out and our staff will see that it is in alphabetical order in the lobby for you. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. A Unity Rally was held in the Ellwood City Community Plaza on Lawrence Avenue in downtown Ellwood City on Sunday afternoon. The non-partisan and public demonstration was planned to raise awareness of and show support for the Black Lives Matter and current Civil Rights Movement sweeping across the nation. Business is boomin’ for a local business as we approach the 4th of July holiday weekend. Local Man Works to Save Fireworks Again

For the second year in a row, Eric Rayner has fought to save the fireworks display. And he will get his wish. Council voted on June 17 to have the 2020 fireworks. Last year, the concern was a lack of funding. This year, the fireworks are fully funded but when the Annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food and Entertainment Festival was canceled for 2020, Rayner decided he did not want that to include a cancellation of the fireworks.
