Weisz Named ECASD Varsity Baseball Coach

Chris Weisz has been named the Ellwood City Area School District’s Boys Baseball Coach for the 2021 season. Weisz grew up in Ellwood City and still lives here with his wife, Gabriella, and their three sons Gavyn (9), Greyson (4), and Geno (1). He is no stranger to coaching as has coached both baseball and basketball. “I was the head varsity assistant coach at Shenango where we made 2 WPIAL Final Fours, 2 Sections Championships and in 2019 being ranked the number 1 team in the state. Borough of Ellwood City Looking For Zoning Board Applicants

The Ellwood City Borough Council is advertising the vacancies on the Zoning Hearing Board and looking for applicants. The Borough is seeking one (1) applicant for the Zoning Hearing Board and two (2) applicants for Zoning Hearing Board Alternate. Any Borough resident interested in serving on any of the above positions is asked to submit a letter of interest to the Borough Secretary, 525 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117. All letters must be due/postmarked on or before 4:00 p.m. on March 3, 2021.

Hall Industries Expands Into New Facility In Grove City, Creating 57 New Jobs

Hall Industries, an Ellwood City family-owned engineering and manufacturing company with multiple locations in the commonwealth, will streamline its operations in western Pennsylvania into a new facility in Mercer County, creating 57 jobs, Governor Tom Wolf announced this week. Hall Industries will acquire the 468,000-square-foot Cooper Industrial Commons—a brownfield site in Grove City—and will renovate, purchase new machinery and equipment, and provide employee training. While certain operations will be streamlined to the new facility, the company’s existing Pennsylvania facilities will remain open. Trash Collection Proposal, Code Enforcement Priorities for Borough Officials

During Ellwood City Borough Council’s February 15 meeting, Borough Manager David Allen said he is continuing to work on a proposal for trash collection. “I am confident we will be able to meet the needs of all of our citizens,” he said. Allen also said although there has not been any court cases related to code enforcement in the borough because of COVID, officials are still keeping their eyes open for violations. “Hobo” Dinner Planned For ‘All Aboard Ellwood’ Fundraiser

The Ellwood City McDonald’s along with the “All Aboard Ellwood” committee is holding a ‘hobo’ fundraising event on March 1, 2021. A “HOBO MEAL” (Cheeseburger, small fries, small drink – $3.00) will be served on March 1, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m at the local McDonald’s. 20% of all proceeds will be donated by McDonald’s to help renovate the All Aboard Ellwood caboose recently brought into town and place on Fourth Street across from the former VFW building. “The McDonald’s staff are playing the part, dressing as railroad conductors, complete with conductor hats and red bandanas,” said Dom…
