POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT: On July 1st at approximately 11:00 p.m. police were dispatched to New Galilee on a report of theft. The victim, 81, of New Galilee reported his pellet stove stolen, which was located in the basement of his residence, at a value of around $2,300.00 Investigation pending further according to the complaint. RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY: Theodore Yeagley, 49, of Beaver Falls, is charged with Receiving Stolen Property after an incident occurring on June 24th. Route 65 Mercer Road Slide Repair, Water Line Relocation Work Begins Wednesday

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced slide repair work on Route 65 (Mercer Road) in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County will begin Wednesday, September 17 weather permitting. Beginning at approximately 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, a portion of Route 65 between Grandview Road and Bennett Drive will close to traffic continuously through mid-November. Municipal crews will relocate a water line and PennDOT forces will conduct cross pipe repair work, slide remediation, and pavement restoration. Traffic will be detoured via Harpers Ferry Road (Route 1012) and Chapel Drive (Route 1005). Please use caution if traveling on this roadway. Work zone…


Ellwood City Borough Council Approves Standing Schedule for Annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food, & Entertainment Festival

Ellwood City Borough Council voted Monday night to always hold the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food, & Entertainment Festival on the weekend on or surrounding Fourth of July. Council determined that should the Fourth of July fall on a Monday/Tuesday, the festival should be held the weekend before, and if it falls Wednesday/Thursday, it should be held the weekend after. Councilwoman Michelle Lamenza made the motion with support from all council members except Jan Williams. You don’t want to miss the upcoming New Castle Playhouse production of Nunsense, a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser. Those who attended the Ellwood City Area Historical Society’s 38th season kick-off dinner held at the Connoquenessing Country Club on September 8th were treated to a toe-tapping music session by the incomparable Tony Barge. PennDOT Invites Pennsylvania High School Students to Join the Ninth Annual ‘Innovations Challenge’

Harrisburg– This week, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invited high school students throughout the state to participate in this year’s PennDOT Innovations Challenge, which encourages students to use their problem-solving, creative and strategic-thinking abilities to solve real-world transportation challenges in a competition among their peers. The Innovations Challenge is open to all students in grades 9-12, regardless of their school’s learning model. ECASD Board of Directors Vote to Retain Architectural Firm in Consideration of North Side and Hartman Construction Projects

Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted Thursday night to retain HHSDR to design projects relating to the North Side and Hartman Facility Studies (View a copy of the study here), create bid documents, and seek bids for the projects including alternative bids with options for the project’s scope. The projects, according to the study, come with a probable cost of approximately $9.9 million.
