Senate Passes 2022-23 State Budget that Cuts Taxes, Funds Essential Services

HARRISBURG – The Senate approved a $45.2 billion General Fund Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-23 that meets the needs of Pennsylvanians today without creating multi-billion-dollar budget deficits in the future, according to Sen. Elder Vogel (R-47), who voted for the measure. Senate Bill 1100 now goes to the governor’s desk for enactment into law. The $45.2 billion budget, which also includes federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, represents a 2.9% increase over the previous year’s spending – and $500 million less than Gov. HHSDR Provides Helling Stadium Update, Presents Proposal for Perry Lower Renovations

Representatives from HHSDR Architects/Engineers announced during Thursday night’s Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors meeting that construction is on track at Helling Stadium for the proposed September 28 completion date. They said that all the “in the mud” type work is finished. They expect the turf work to begin after Aug 8, which is the expected arrival date of the materials. Approximately 250 Columbia Gas Customers Are Experiencing Natural Gas Outage

According to an alert from Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania made available to the borough, approximately 250 customers are experiencing a natural gas outage in the Ellwood City area as of Thursday afternoon. The outage affects customers on Aetna Drive, Argonne Boulevard, Cavalier Court, Crabapple Lane, Crestview Drive, Dover Lane, June Lee Street, Meadowridge Drive, Peach Street, Plymouth Lane, Sewall Court, Skyline Drive, Sunset Boulevard, and Walnut Drive. Columbia Gas technicians are on site, and repairs are underway. Local Churches History Slated As New Historical Society Project

Andrew Kindle, Historical Society First Vice President, was appointed by President Everett Bleakney to head up the latest society project – Local Churches History. The project will collect information from churches that are in our collection zone of about a ten mile radius. The Juried Art Show is pleased to return to the 2022 Ellwood City Festival. Visitors to the Ellwood City Festival are invited to view this year’s Juried Art Show at Trefoil Lodge during all three days of the festival – Saturday through Monday, July 2-4, from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Artists interested in participating had the opportunity to drop off their work on Saturday and Sunday, June 25-26, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work was dropped off at Trefoil Lodge in Ewing Park and received by Festival Juried Art Show Chair Irina Trenga. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: According to a police report, two unknown white males proceeded to operate a Farmall tractor with a brush hog attachment and mow approximately 1,000 feet of wooded area along private property lines at Del-Mar Golf Course in Wayne Township. The incident was reported to have taken place between the times of June 25th at midnight and June 26th at 9:53 a.m. While police were on scene, trail cameras were reviewed along with a neighbor canvassed none of which yielded with identifying the potential suspects. On Sunday, July 3, at 4:00, inductees into the 2022 Hall of Fame will be honored at a ceremony on Folino Entertainment Stage. Please be on hand to honor these individuals who have contributed substantially to the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food, and Entertainment Festival. The Festival Hall of Fame was established in 2018. Hall of Fame souvenir booklets from 2018 and 2019 are still available, and contain stories of the previous inductees.
