EC Historical Society Monthly Meeting Wrap-Up

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society started their 2022-2023 season with a dinner meeting at the Connoquennesing Country Club on Monday, September 12th. President Everett Bleakney welcomed all in attendance, and reminded them of the Society’s mission to Collect, Protect, Preserve and make the History of the Ellwood City Area available to all. He then introduced Guy Prestia, a WWII veteran, and asked him to lead the group in the Pledge to the American Flag. Charles Brown then gave the invocation preceding the evening dinner. Gov. Wolf: $246 Million Awarded to Support Small Businesses Across Pennsylvania

The Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation was among the 21 economic development organizations to receive upwards of $123.8 million in revolving loan funds to help aid small businesses in the county. The Revolving Loan Fund program provides funding to economic development organizations to create or recapitalize revolving loan funds to support financing for Pennsylvania small businesses. The Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation is slated to received $1,122,500.00 in funds. Wayne Township Clean-Up Day Announced

Wayne Township residents are invited to participate in the annual clean-up day that will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. until Noon at the Wayne Township Municipal Building. The municipal building is located at 1418 Wampum Road Ellwood City, PA 16117. This event is for Wayne Township residents only. Proof of residency is required. The cost to participate is $10.00 per pickup truck load. ECASD Board of Directors Approves Bids for the Perry School Project

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to approve bids for the Perry School project with a total bid summary cost of $10,348,578.00—a cost which includes an asbestos package. Engineers from HHSDR and CJL Engineering presented the bids and options during Thursday’s regular meeting. Included in the project will be all new electrical, HVAC, plumbing, asbestos removal, a new roof, a four-classroom addition, a nurse suite addition, new flooring, painting, new windows, fixture upgrades, and other necessary construction to bring the 1933 building up to code. ASSAULT: On July 4th at approximately 9:15 p.m, PA State Police investigated the report of a fight between neighbors over fireworks at a residence on Railroad Avenue, Wayne Township. Three suspects have been charged including Mary Cruz, 46, of Youngstown, and a 16-year-old female from Youngstown. DISORDERLY CONDUCT: On August 28th at approximately 6:08 p.m., PA State Police, Shenango Township Police, and Hickory Township Police responded to the false report of a robbery at a residence on Ellwood Road, Slippery Rock Township. Butler Health System Administering Updated Bivalent COVID-19 Boosters

Butler Health System (BHS) will be offering the updated bivalent COVID-19 booster vaccine from Pfizer this week at two locations. This vaccine is authorized for people 12 years and older who have completed a primary vaccination series at least 8 weeks ago. People who have previously received a monovalent booster (the typical boosters up until now) should receive this updated bivalent booster if their last booster was 8 weeks ago or longer.
