Cortni Prine’s dream came true when she opened her nail salon in March. The Ellwood City Native has been doing nails for four years, and decided she was ready to become an entrepreneur. 10,000 Friends to Kick off South Side Revitalization Program in New Castle

Beaver Tales – Beaver County Conservation District Updates

The Beaver County Conservation District held a spring tire collection event on April 1st and April 2nd at the district office. We accepted light truck and car tires up to 20” off rim at a cost of $2.50 per tire. This discounted price was possible through the West Nile Virus Grant for education and habitat reduction. We collected over 1,000 tires during the 2-day event. Like our past tire collections, we used the services of Liberty Tire Recycling. Ethel Snare Celebrates 100th Birthday

Ellwood City native Ethel Snare joined the centennial celebrations this week, celebrating her 100th birthday on Wednesday.  Snare joins Guy Prestia whom celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday. Snare was born on April 27,1922 to George and Gladys Wallis in the Ewing Park area of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. She grew up with her three siblings, Virginia, Robert, and Roberta during the Depression and the lessons of being thrifty and self-sufficient have stayed with her to this day. Guy Prestia Celebrates 100th Birthday

Guy Prestia was listed as the ‘most ambitious boy’ of the outstanding seniors in Lincoln High School’s 1940 Ellwoodian. Now, 82 years later, ambitious still describes the World War II veteran as he celebrates his 100th birthday, which is Tuesday, April 26. The Ellwood City native, now a North Sewickley Township resident, still drives around Ellwood City, remains active at Park Gate Baptist Church, is a frequent speaker at veterans gatherings and speaks to students in area schools. Beaver, Lawrence County Projects Receive a Combined Total of $4.3 Million

HARRISBURG – A total of five Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants, with a combined total of $4.3 million, have been awarded to Beaver and Lawrence County projects, according to Sen. Elder Vogel (R-47). The majority of that grant funding total – $2.3 million – went to Shenango Area School District toward the cost of the already-constructed Shenango Recreation Complex in Shenango Township, Lawrence County.
