Ellwood City Library has a stellar variety of Summer Programs for 2019! Book Bunch starts in June for kids having completed third grade. Each child receives a free book each month that he or she attends, is treated to pizza for lunch, and fun activities based on the book. Parents need to sign up third graders to attend Book Bunch now. The first books have arrived at the library for pick up. Fourth and Fifth graders can attend Bookworms and receive all the same benefits. It’s a great way to improve reading skills this summer! This summer, the Chippewa Branch of the Beaver County Library System will be bringing a universe of stories during summer story times. Parents, bring your preschool age children to the Franklin Township Community Park on Walnut Street for stories, songs, and crafts. Storytimes will be held on Thursday in June, July, and August. The Thursdays in June fall on the 6th, 13th, and 20th, in July on the 11th and 18th, and it will conclude in August on the 1st, the 8th, and the 15th. The Yellow Ribbon Girls and the American Legion Riders will be hosting a Benefit Run Pig Roast on Saturday, June 1. Donations from the benefit will help support not only the Yellow Ribbon Girls and the American Legion Riders, but the Navy Vietnam Veteran Rick Cantolina as well as many other veterans in need. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. with motorcycles, cars, and trucks welcomed to sign up. The ride will begin at 12:00 p.m. with first bikes out and the last bikes out will be at 12:30. Ellwood City’s Memorial Day parade will be held May 27th. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Bridge on Fifth Street. It will travel to Crescent Avenue, over to Eighth Street, down to Lawrence Avenue, back to Fifth and then take Spring Avenue into Legion Park, where a 45-minute memorial event will be held. Several veterans and local leaders will speak, the borough’s civic chorale will perform, and a flag-raising ceremony held. (Butler, PA) Dr. Nick Neupauer, president of Butler County Community College since 2007, has been selected as the recipient of the third Jean B. Purvis Community Cornerstone Award, which honors those who have made significant contributions to Butler County and who, when recognizing a need, “try to fill it,” the award’s 97-year-old namesake said.
