Borough to Apply for $268,000 Grant for Park Revitalization

The Ellwood City Borough will apply for a $268,000 state grant for upgrades to Ewing and Stiefel parks. The grant is a 50-50 match, so the total project will amount to $536,000. Earlier this month, council indicated it’d like to apply for at least $100,000 but by its meeting on March 21, council had established the current figure. The borough is working in concert with Lawrence County to apply for the grant provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Ellwood City Drug Take Back Program

The Ellwood City Police Department is sponsoring a drug take back program on Saturday, April 30 at the Ellwood City Municipal Building. Residents may use the opportunity to turn in unused or expired medication for safe disposal. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Photos: 23rd Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt

Nearly 600 children collected 6,000 eggs Saturday morning at the 23rd Annual Community Easter Egg hunt. The event, for children nine and under, took place at the Ewing Park tennis courts. Children hunted the eggs scattered throughout the courts, collecting candy and prizes. In addition to eggs filled with candy, hundreds of eggs had slips of paper redeemable for prizes, and 25 special eggs provided a super prize of a large Easter Basket with a stuffed animal and candy.

23rd Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt

The 23rd Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt is this Saturday, March 23. The event will be held in the tennis court area of Ewing Park and starts at 11 a.m. All children 9 and under are welcome. Over 5,000 eggs along with 25 golden eggs will be distributed throughout the five hunts. Treats will be given out to each child after their hunts. 400 Free Prom Dresses Available for Lawrence County Students

New Castle- Over 400 free prom dresses are available to Lawrence County students in a giveaway this weekend at Feed My Sheep Outreach Ministries on 540 E Long Ave. This is the second prom dress giveaway in what is planned to be an annual event. Last year, nearly 200 dresses were given to high school students who may not have been able to afford their own. Dresses range in size from 0 to 28. Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 officers and members observed St. Patrick’s Day at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 9 at 5 p.m. The session held at Pizza Joe’s began with an Irish Stew luncheon prepared by the staff and served by Trustee Pudue LaCava, Sentinel Lois DiFrischia and member Jackie Perno. Mary Fabian Receives Honor for 100th Birthday

Riverside Area Youth Soccer League Spring Season Begins

For the second straight spring season, the Riverside Area Youth Soccer League (RAYSL) has set an enrollment record. Spring 2016 enrollment in the U10 – U19 (Travel) age groups totaled 158 players, up from 144 in 2015, 117 in 2014 and 105 in 2013.
