Independence Health System Offering Health Fair & Screening Event

Borough of Ellwood City Launching Food Drive

The Borough of Ellwood City is proud to announce the launch of a Borough wide Food Drive to support the Holy Redeemer food bank for the holidays. Boxes for businesses interested in participating may be obtained by emailing rschnell@ellwoodcityborough.com. Boxes for donations will also be located near the Utility Billing Window at the Borough of Ellwood City. Most requested items include stuffing, yams, sweet potatoes, turkey gravy, canned vegetables, canned pumpkin, cranberry sauce, instant potatoes, mac and cheese, pie crust, pie filling, corn bread mix, banana bread mix, cake mix, and icing. Ewing Park Residents Implore Ellwood City Borough Council to Consider Impact of Planned Softball Field

Residents of Beatty Street and Wood Avenue continued to oppose a planned softball field in their Ewing Park neighborhood during Monday night’s regular meeting of the Ellwood City Borough Council. Although there were no motions on the agenda regarding the field, a dedicated group of residents attended to express their concerns. Karen Mancini who lives on Beatty Street asked Council to consider putting up signs on the streets surrounding the field, should the stadium be built, that would allow only residents and guests of residents to park there. GRIDIRON: Panthers Fall To Neshannock (Photos), Wolverines Downed By Tigers

The Riverside Panthers had a tough match-up on Friday, facing a section-leading Neshannock Lancers team. The visiting Lancers (7-1 Overall) flexed their moxy early, scoring five times in the first quarter and racing out to a 49-6 halftime advantage en route to their comfortable 64-20 section victory over Riverside. Natural Gas Odor Forces Brief Evacuation At Lincoln High School

An odor of natural gas detected in a Lincoln High School storage room Thursday morning, forcing a brief evacuation of the high school. This according to the Ellwood City Area School District and superintendent Wes Shipley. “We evacuated the building to Hartman while Columbia Gas and the local fire department investigated,” said Shipley in an emailed statement Friday. Both Columbia Gas and the fire department noted that the levels of gas in the air were minute and were not at an explosive level. Playoff Bound Wolverines Volleyball Split Matches This Week

The Ellwood City volleyball team split two section matches this week, knocking off Laurel on Thursday after falling to Shenango on the road Tuesday.  The Wolverines record rests at 10-5 Overall and 8-4 WPIAL Section 2A-1, good for a top-four spot in the section that earns the team a playoff berth. On Tuesday, the Wolverines were defeated in five sets by the Wildcats. Upcoming Trunk or Treat Events

Several area churches will be holding Trunk or Treat events as the Halloween holiday approaches. On Sunday, October 22, 2023, North Sewickley Presbyterian Church will hold its fifth annual Trunk or Treat from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in its church parking lot. The church is located at 106 Chapel Drive, Ellwood City, PA 16117, just look for all the decorated cars, costumes and children across from Shakespeare’s Restaurant. Residents Continue Opposition Against Planned Softball Stadium at Former Ewing Park School Location

Residents of Beatty and Wood Streets, where a softball stadium is planned for the Ellwood City Area School District girls softball team, continued to fill the seats of the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors meeting room, and they circulated a petition in the hallway of Lincoln High School in an effort stop the plan before Thursday’s voting meeting.
