Senior Privilege is Working Well, According to Administration

The Lincoln High School administration reported that senior privilege, a scheduling policy for the 2016-17 school year, has been working fantastically. At the Ellwood City Area school board agenda meeting on Tuesday, Lincoln assistant principal John Sovich presented the board with statistics and feedback on the policy. Following the feedback, the board, which was skeptical of the policy last year, overwhelmingly approved of senior privilege. Mayor Swears in Newest full time Patrol Officer

It was with great pride that Mayor Anthony J. Court swore into office the newest hired full time patrol officer for Ellwood City’s police force, Jonathan Fauzey. Fauzey will work side by side with a veteran officer of the force to enhance his skills while upholding the integrity of the entire Department. Fauzey was hired during the January Ellwood City Borough council meeting.

The Ellwood City basketball team and cheerleading squad celebrated senior night before Friday’s conference game against New Castle. New Castle defeated Ellwood 79-23. New Castle remains undefeated this season and are ranked number 4 in the PIAA Class AAA by the Patriot News in Harrisburg. Ellwood City managed to score 14 points in the third quarter. Anthony Roth was the high scorer with 14 points. However, Ellwood City was able to end the season with a victory when they defeated Slippery Rock 40-30 on Saturday. CCBC Makes Historic Land Purchase to Accommodate Future Growth

Monaca, Pa. –Community College of Beaver County has formally acquired nearly 13 acres of land adjacent to the main campus in Center Township. Federal Marshals Apprehend New Castle Attempted Homicide Suspect in Ellport

Federal marshals apprehended a New Castle man charged with attempted homicide in an Ellport house last Tuesday, Feb. 2. Shaquone Lockett, 20, was wanted by New Castle police since an incident on Oct. 12. Lockett was charged with attempt to commit homicide, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, and recklessly endangering another person. All charges are first degree felonies. According to the criminal complaint filed with District Judge Melissa Amodie, Lockett shot Ortarius Williams, 19, of New Castle, in the face with a shotgun. Local Resident to Be Featured Tonight “Get Marty” Television Series

Local resident Joseph Gasper will be featured tonight on KDKA during the popular Marty Griffin series, “Get Marty”, a segment that appears on the six o’clock news. 97 year-old Gasper, one of the area’s last surviving veterans, was injured on Dec. 7, 1941 at the attack on Pearl Harbor. His family had tried several times 18 months ago to get a chair lift installed, so he could safely go downstairs from his bedroom to the rest of the house. Senior Karrington Ketterer scored 26 points in yesterday’s 49-34 win against New Castle on Senior Night. The Lady Wolverines have five seniors on the roster and all hold a special place to head coach Jolene Krupa and her sister, assistant coach Dena Noble. When the two started coaching, the Class of 2016 was in eighth grade, and Krupa and Noble have coached them up through the years. Nick Ioanilli Signs to Play Football at Colgate

Ellwood City senior Nick Ioanilli signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, Feb. 3 to play football at Colgate University, a Division I school in the NCAA’s Patriot League. Ioanilli was the Wolverine’s top rusher in the past two seasons. He is projected to play linebacker for the Colgate Raiders.    


Karrington Ketterer wins Lawrence County Basketball Scholarship

Ellwood City senior Karrington Ketterer was the recipient of the Lawrence County Girls Youth Basketball Scholarship. Yesterday, Ketterer set her career high of 26 points in Ellwood’s Senior Night game against New Castle. She is 13 points away from a varsity career of 1,000.
