Improving Junior High Softball Team Suffers 8-6 Loss vs. Seneca Valley

After four straight lopsided losses, the Lady Wolverines showed significant improvement as they battled Seneca Valley Tuesday afternoon. After walking 10 batters in the first two innings and spotting the Raiders a 6-0 lead, the young pitching staff led by Madi Krugh, yielded just one more free pass and two additional runs over the final four frames. The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City Borough Council meeting on April 18: Visitors [added at 11 p.m.] Paul Dici read a letter from Senator Elder Vogel’s office that a search of Pennsylvania Unified Judaical System turns up no records concerning Dici. This was in response to comments from former council member Ralph Chiappetta, who said he had once filed charges against Dici. Police: New Castle Man Caught After Extended Chase from Ellwood to Zelienople

A New Castle man was apprehended by Ellwood City police after an extended car chase Saturday night from Ellwood to the Zelienople Airport. Wesley Jay Cox, 34, of New Castle, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, fleeing police, reckless endangerment, accident causing damage to property, driving while suspended and reckless driving. The incident began around 9 p.m. on April 16 when an officer observed a Nissan Altima traveling in the vicinity of Plum Way and Spring Avenue. Ellwood Boys Tennis Falls to Quaker Valley

The Ellwood City boys tennis team lost a home match against Quaker Valley 0-5 on Friday. The doubles teams of Zain Ansari/Alex Scott and Christian Covert/Alex Vardzel played competitive rounds against the Quaker teams but ultimately lost. Ellwood City Softball Team Masters Three Conference Games

The Ellwood City softball team swung past three conference opponents in three days. The Lady Wolverines shut down Riverside 15-0 on Thursday, defeated Neshannock 11-8 on Friday and finished the weekend with a victory against Mohawk 7-1 on Saturday. On Thursday’s away game against rival Riverside, Ellwood’s Skyla Greco pitched a near perfect game, striking out 12 batters as her team defeated Riverside 15-0. Ellwood City Track Teams Sweep Beaver Falls

The Ellwood City boys and girls track teams both defeated Beaver Falls in a home meet on Thursday, April 14. For the girls, Golide Bookamer swept the three distance events and the pole vault. Taylor Petrak won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, and Emily Brown won the shot put and javelin throws. For the boys, River Kelly won the javelin while taking second in the discuss and shot put. Beaver County Teaming Up with United Way to Help Fight Hunger

Beaver, PA- The Beaver County Commissioner’s announced today that the County partnering with the United Way’s Scouting for Food Campaign. Area residents and employees can bring non-perishable items to the courthouse or any county satellite office during the month of April. Boxes and signage will be located at the front and back entrances of the courthouse, in the Commissioners’ Office, and at the entrances of the county satellite offices. There are currently 12 food banks in Beaver County that are run by the Salvation Army that feed approximately 4,000 people a month. All food donated will help those in need….
