Vogel Supports Restoration of Funding for Schools, Agriculture, Hospitals

Borough Considering Applying for more than $100,000 in State Grants for Parks

At its voting meeting next week, the Ellwood City Borough Council is poised to approve an application process for a state grant for upgrades to Ewing and Stiefel Park. The grants could total more than $100,000. The Ellwood City Parks and Recreation Committee, chaired by council member David DeCaria, has been working on a parks master plan, and with this grant, the borough will have money to implement some of the ideas. Riverside Area Youth Soccer League Spring Season Begins

For the second straight spring season, the Riverside Area Youth Soccer League (RAYSL) has set an enrollment record. Spring 2016 enrollment in the U10 – U19 (Travel) age groups totaled 158 players, up from 144 in 2015, 117 in 2014 and 105 in 2013. RAYSL also saw their U6 & U8 registrations grow to 104 players this season, representing a five-year high. 158 travel players and 262 players overall both represent 10-year highs for the program. “The best part about this season’s enrollment is that a record in one age group isn’t coming at the expense of another,” club secretary…

March 15, 2016 – State Representative Jaret Gibbons’, D – Lawrence/Beaver/ Butler, Ellwood City office will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016. Burger King Employee Steals $150 by Writing Two Bank Deposits A Beaver Falls woman was accused of stealing $150 from Burger King on Lawrence Avenue. According to the criminal complaint filed on March 7, Christy Marie Landles, 24, stole the money as an employee while making a night deposit to PNC bank. Burger King cameras from Feb. 16 show Landles preparing a deposit of $764.15 but PNC records show a deposit of $614.15. Municipal Woman’s Club Planning Spring Fashion Show

The Ellwood City Municipal Woman’s Club spring fashion show is set for April 21 at Shakespeare’s Restaurant. About 200 women are expected to attend. Fashions will be provided by Spoiled Chics from Sewickley and Venezie Sporting Goods from Ellwood City, while a jewelry raffle will be provided by Blocher Jewelers from Franklin Township Plaza. Ag Committees to Hold Hearing Tomorrow on Cuts to Agriculture Funding
