A bill to legalize medical marijuana in Pennsylvania passed through the House and is under review by the Senate. You can read about it here. The legality of cannabis by state varies, but suffice to say Pennsylvania remains in the minority of 11 states that haven’t legalized any form of the cannabis plant. The Lady Wolverines traveled to Shaler on Thursday afternoon and took one on the chin. Shaler put up 10 runs in just five innings as the game was halted by the mercy rule. Walks and untimely errors proved to be the young team’s undoing as Shaler managed just five hits. The Wolverines mustered just three hits themselves as Shaler’s defense was dazzling. Trial of Man Accused in Ellwood City Murder Case Begins Today

Update: The trial was post-postponed until Monday because a juror fell ill. The trial of a man accused of a November 2013 homicide in Ellwood City is scheduled to begin today. Leon J. Platt, 28, of Rochester, is charged with the murder of Richard Hogue, of Enon Valley, at a residence on Loop Street in Ellwood City. Judge J. Craig Cox will preside over the trial. Ellwood City Teacher Recognized for Excellence in Technology Education

Allentown, PA, March 30, 2016 –The Hybrid Learning Institute (HLI) today announced the winners of the “Rock Star” awards for the outstanding use of educational technology in Pennsylvania classrooms. The recognition was given to educators who best used new technology tools to improve student performance. Senator Vogel to Collect Food for Local Salvation Army

State Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. announced that he will be collecting non-perishable food for the New Castle Salvation Army at his New Castle District Office. The deadline to donate the food items is June 30. Saxon Club Trip to Meadows Casino

The Ellwood City Saxon Club is taking a bus trip to the Meadows Casino on April 30. The club is leaving at 12:30 p.m. and returning at 8 p.m. The price is $30 per person, with $15 back in free play. Ellwood City Track and Field Grabs Individual Wins in Double Meet

The Ellwood City boys and girls track and field started the season yesterday with a double meet versus Beaver and Rochester at home. Both the boys and girls teams defeated Rochester but lost to Beaver. The Ellwood girls dominated much of the field competition against both Beaver and Rochester, with Mia DeCaria winning the high and triple jumps, Goldie Bookamer winning the pole-vault, Karrington Ketterer winning javelin and Madison Morella winning the long jump. The Lady Wolverines jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two innings against the Raiders at Stiefel Park. The lead would prove to be short lived as Seneca Valley plated nine runs in the third and fourth to win going away by a score of 15-4.
