Police: Ellwood Sexual Offender Fails to Register

Failure to Register as a Sexual Offender An Ellwood City man was charged with failing to register as a sexual offender. According to the criminal complaint, Michael Paul Henry, 35, has not checked in with the state police Megan’s Law Registration Unit since March 10, 2016 and is required to do so once a month. Investigating officers checked Henry’s residence at 224 Lawrence Ave. and saw Henry through a window, but  the offender did not answer the door. Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 held their annual Mother-Daughter-Scholarship dinner Wednesday, May 4 at 5 p.m. at the Wolverine Restaurant. Youth Dance at Ewing Park Pool on Monday

The Ellwood City Borough will host a youth dance at the Ewing Park swimming pool on Monday, June 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. The dance is for grades 6-8 and is the second year for the event. Admission is $3. The concession stand will be open, and there will be chaperones and a DJ. “The dance is an excellent way to celebrate the start of summer vacation,” borough council member Marilyn Mancini, one of the event’s organizers, said.

Senator Vogel Seeking Local Photos for 2017 District Calendar

Senator Elder Vogel is calling on residents to submit photos capturing the spirit and beauty of the 47th Senatorial District, with the top entries to be featured in his 2017 calendar. Contestants can submit two photos per category (spring, summer, fall and winter). The top three vote-getters in each group will serve as a featured month in Senator Vogel’s 2017 “Scenes from the 47th Senatorial District Calendar.” The contest is open to all individuals, children and adults, but photos must have been taken within the boundaries of the 47th District. WPIAL Softball Game Postponed

The Ellwood City-South Park WPIAL playoff softball game, originally scheduled for today at 11 a.m., has been postponed to tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. The game will still be held at the California University of Pennsylvania in California, Pa. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.

The Ellwood City girl’s softball team is one game away from a WPIAL title, but if they’re nervous, they aren’t showing it. Senior Braden Bentel hit the WPIAL-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Riverside clinched the WPIAL title from Neshannock in a 1-0 game. Riverside and Neshannock stood toe-to-toe for an extended nine-inning game as pitchers Michael Boswell and Frank Fraschetti dueled. In the bottom of the ninth, senior Kolby Wolf got on base on a throwing error. Wolf advanced to second on a sacrificial bunt by sophomore Austin Dambach.
