BEAVER FALLS – State Rep Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, will be hosting a seminar to inform the public on how to protect people’s financial investments, long-term care and estate planning. The Ellwood City Borough has announced the launch of CodeRED, a community alert notification system. All borough residents and those in the Ellwood City area are encouraged to sign up for CodeRED alerts. Those enrolled in the system will receive emergency notifications such as power outages or Amber alerts as well as other notifications such as road closures and snow plow schedules. Residents can sign up to receive notifications via home phone, cell phone and/or text message. The last day for Ellwood City property taxpayers to receive discounts has been extended one day to May 16. Borough tax collector Mary Ann Portugallo’s office hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, May 16. The tax collector’s office is in the Ellwood City Municipal Building at 525 Lawrence Ave. Her office is normally closed on Mondays but will be open because the original discount deadline fell on a Sunday. The office will also be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday but tax discounts won’t be available. Fore more information, call 724-758-9673.

Man Assaults Man and Damages Car According to the criminal complaint, Richard C. Myers, 39, of Ellport, assaulted a man and damaged his car during an accident on April 15 at approximately 4:30 p.m. The victim testified that he had driven to a residence in Ellport to drop his son’s bicycle off. Myers, the victim’s ex-wife’s boyfriend, subsequently punched him through the open window of the driver’s seat, knocking his glasses off. The victim exited the car to retrieve his glasses and was further assaulted by Myers, causing damage to the vehicle. The victim left the scene and informed police….
