Photos: Memorial Day Parade

The Ellwood City Memorial Day Parade was held yesterday, honoring the men and women that died in military service for the United States of America. The parade started at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Memorial Bridge and concluded on Spring Avenue. For the first time this year, there was a picnic at Circle Playground following the parade.


Ellwood City Men’s Softball League Schedule

Five teams comprise the Ellwood City Men’s Softball League at Stiefel Park this summer. Games commenced Tuesday, May 17 and will continue through August. The five teams represented include Laser Security, Venezie’s Sporting Goods & Apparel, The Color Center, Marshall’s Tree Experts and Duncan’s Auto Service. Game formats are seven-inning contests with double-headers at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The league uses the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) rules with open rosters. Bell Memorial Church Crossing Guard Appreciation Brunch

The Ellwood City Area Crossing Guards were honored on Thursday, May 26 with an Appreciation Brunch by the Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church. This was an opportunity to honor and say “thank you” for keeping our children safe through out the school year. The event was coordinated by Mary Ann Gearhart with the help of Janie Linville and Diane Neyman. The Rev. Ray Medina, pastor of Bell Memorial, shared prayer.  


Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of 5-30-2016

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: The library will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday. Wednesday, June 1, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. Borough Officials Remind Residents about Property Upkeep

Borough officials issued a notice Thursday to remind residents about property maintenance regulations. Sanitation: All exterior property and premises should be maintained in a clean, safe and sanitary condition. Weeds: Weeds and grass are not permitted to grow in excess of six inches. Note: Grass trimmings cannot be discarded onto the road or in storm sewers. Rodent Harborage: All property must be kept free from rodent harborage and infestation. When rodents are found, they should be exterminated by an approved process and proper precautions taken to prevent re-infestation. Gibbons Invites Public to Town Hall Meeting 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 31

Pittsburgh Mills Sky Trail to Honor First Responders with Free Admission

FRAZER TWP – Pittsburgh Mills Sky Trail is recognizing first responders for their service in protecting life and property with free admission from June 5-30, 2016, Sundays through Fridays. A 10 percent discount for up to six additional guests with the first responder is also included. First responders include active duty fire fighters, rescue and emergency medical workers, TSA personnel, law enforcement officers and military men and women. WPIAL Softball and Baseball Schedules

Congratulations to the Ellwood City softball team and Riverside baseball team. Both teams have advanced to the WPIAL playoff game. The softball team remains undefeated, with a 10-3 win over Steel Valley yesterday. They will play South Park at California University on Thursday, June 2 at 11 a.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. The Riverside baseball team will play Neshannock on Tuesday, May 31 at 4 p.m. at the Console Energy Center in North Franklin Township. Riverside is 16-2 overall. Memorial Day Parade Schedule and Route

On Monday, May 30 Ellwood City will honor the men and women that died in military service for the United States of America with a community parade, ceremony and picnic. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Memorial Bridge with a brief tribute to those who died at sea. Dr. Robert Gregg, a World War II Army Veteran, will be the Parade Marshal. Gregg was a battalion master sergeant and combat engineer in Germany. The parade will conclude on Spring Avenue and be immediately followed by a ceremony at Legion Park.
