Cayla Sudano Receives Lincoln Class of 1957 Scholarship

Cayla Renee Sudano will use the Lincoln High School Class of 1957 scholarship to continue her education, with the goal of becoming an oncologist at the University of Pittsburgh where she will begin classes Aug. 29 and major in biology/pre-medicine. Announcement of the award was made by James Meehan, 1957 class president, during Lincoln’s 55th annual senior class recognition assembly where he noted the class has given more than $40,000 in scholarships in the past eight years. Two Graduates Receive Corona D’Italia Scholarships

Jordan Dobbin, a senior at Canon-McMillan High School of Canonsburg, Pa. was awarded a $500 Corona D’Italia Memorial Scholarship in honor of her academic achievement and community involvement. Her eligibility was based on her grandfather, Herman D’Amico being a member of the Sons of Italy #608. She plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania to study Social Deviance. The Ellwood City softball team won the first round of the PIAA playoffs in a 10-0 landslide against Bald Eagle. On Friday, the Lady Wolverines claimed the WPIAL title 10-0 in a five-inning mercy rule, and the team repeated that performance three days later. Police: Wampum Resident Charged with Aggravated Assault after Intentionally Running over Man with a Truck

A Wampum resident assaulted a Perry Township man by running him over with a truck, resulting in the victim’s hospitalization under critical care. According to the criminal complaint,Travis Edward Olinger, 28, is charged with aggravated assault against the victim, Ronald H. Miller. On June 5 at approximately 4:30, officers were dispatched to the Ellwood City Hospital for an assault call. Officers spoke with a witness, the Miller’s nephew.
