Why Ellwood and Riverside School Districts Should Merge

The notion never gathered enough momentum to move beyond the idea stage. With ever declining populations and an increasingly difficult financial situation for public education, I think that a merger will eventually become a necessity. Photos: Annual EllwoodCity.org Golf Outing A Success!

EllwoodCity.org held its eighth annual golf scramble and cookout on Saturday, May 30 at the Beaver Valley Golf Club. The event, sponsored by over 20 local businesses, included 15 participating foursomes. Furthermore, 26 other businesses donated door and hole prizes for the participants, including a brand new Chevy Malibu for a hole-in-one shot on the Par 3 18th Hole. The morning shotgun start for the outing begin under clear and sunny skies and the scramble portion of the event just beat the thunderstorms that rumbled through in the afternoon. A total of 115 Lincoln High School seniors will receive diplomas today during commencement exercises in the high school auditorium. The program will begin at 7 p.m. The high honor graduates for the Class of 2015 were Abigail Beverly Dorer, Lexus Rae Garvin, Patrick Liam Gilkey, Payton Hill Kegel, Autumn Renee Kuzmin, Amber Rae Leech, Derek Robert Lust, Bailey Ann McKinney, Olivia Justine Pigza, Lauren Ashley Stiles and Marina Taxiarhia Thetford. Honor graduates are Celia Marie DiCarlo, Samuel Arik Metcalfe, Morgan Paige Meyers, Tyler Jay Neyman, RaeAnna Louise Orock, Maggie Jane Prokovich and Anneleise Williams.

Relay Team Overcomes Obstacles to Break Record and Qualify for States

Ellwood City’s girl’s track and field 4 x 100 meter relay team is on the road to states. The team broke a 39-year old record at the Tri-County Invitational a few weeks ago, broke their new record a week later at the WPIAL qualifiers, and again at the WPIALs. Their current record is 50.8 seconds, and the team is prepared to break that at the PIAA meet at Shippensburg this Friday and Saturday. Why to Vote Today

I’ve never voted in a local election. However, I’ve gotten a bit interested in local politics- interested enough to take 10 minutes to vote. In national elections, there’s no shortage of excuses to not vote.
