Basketball Week Summary: Riverside and Ellwood City Teams All Suffer Conference Losses

The Riverside Lady Panthers experienced their first lost 51-39 to hosting Neshannock in a conference game yesterday on Monday. Riverside started out in the lead, ending the first half 21-12. However, the third quarter was far from their finest moment as the Lady Panthers only saw two points to the Lady Lancers’ 14. A 25-16 final quarter saw Riverside go home defeated for the first time. Riverside’s offense centered around Katie Stang’s 24 points. For the Lady Lancers, Aiden Noga had 19 and Carmie Matarazzo 18. Ellwood City Borough Council December Meeting Brief

The following is a brief summary of the Ellwood City Borough Council Meeting December Brief: Visitors Judi Dici, who will be sworn in on council on Jan. 4, addressed council concerning a proposal by council member Ralph Chiappetta at last week’s agenda meeting. The proposal suggested that officers only answer calls with municipalities that have an agreement with the borough, which she described as “inconceivable that an officer wouldn’t answer a call.” She praised council president Brad Ovial for suggesting that the borough seek other agreements amicably with other municipalities. Ellwood Wolverines Lose to Beaver Falls; Lady Wolverines Lose to Blackhawk

The Ellwood City Wolverines and Lady Wolverines both lost conference games last week. The boys team lost to Beaver Falls on Friday and the girls to Blackhawk on Thursday. Ellwood City v Beaver Falls The Ellwood City Wolverines were close to an upset in their away game versus Beaver Falls but ultimately fell short by five points. The game ended 53-48 with the undefeated Beaver Falls maintaining their streak. Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce Board of Director Election Results

The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce (ECACC) is pleased to announce the results of their recent election of their Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is a group of 17 volunteers who govern the Chamber and who oversee a salaried Executive Director. Directors are elected by the membership and they serve a three year term. The terms of five of ECACC’s current Directors expire at the end of 2015. It was reported to the Ellwood City Borough Utility Collections Dept. that two local establishments were contacted by phone and told that their utility services were to be terminated. There is no validity to that statement as the Borough of Ellwood City maintains strict standards regarding this type of action. Photos: Riverside Defeats Ellwood City by Two Points in Last Two Seconds

Riverside and Ellwood City clashed in a high-scoring game last night at Riverside High School. Both teams were locked in an evenly-matched struggle which remained undecided until the last two seconds with a steal and two point shot by Riverside. The game ended 71-69 with the Wolverines returning home in dismay. The second quarter ended 35-34, with Riverside leading. Final Holiday Merchant Award Awarded

On Tuesday, Mayor Court presented to Patty Kuhn, owner of Posies by Patty, with the final 2015 “Holiday Merchant Awards” for the beautiful Holiday Window display at her business. Patty received a window display award sign and a gift certificate from a local restaurant. Mayor Court would like to thank everyone who participated in making this annual event such a success.
