Man Calls Police for Relationship Advice According to the police report, on Sept. 2, police were called to scene because a husband and wife were having a disagreement. The man told the responding officer that the disagreement started because his wife was talking to other guys on Facebook. The officer thoughtfully listened to both sides of the story and advised the couple to handle their relationship like adults, especially in front of their children. McConnells Mill Heritage Festival Sept. 24 and 25

History comes alive at the 24th Annual Heritage Festival at McConnells Mill State Park on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Festival, sponsored by the Portersville-Prospect Rotary, celebrates the operational time period of the historical gristmill—from 1852 to 1928. Police: Wampum Man Impersonates State Trooper

David Rowbotham, 40, of Wampum is facing charges of impersonating a public servant, criminal coercion, harassment by communication and a wiretap violation after he called a woman and pretended to be a state trooper. He is accused of threatening her and he telling her she had a burglary warrant for her arrest. Rowbotham recorded the calls without permission from the victim. According to the report, the victim and defendant were hardly acquaintances and the victim was likely targeted due to being loosely linked in a domestic dispute. Veterans’ specialists to visit Gibbons’ office next week

ELLWOOD CITY, Sept. 7 – To assist veterans and their families, state Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, today announced he will host veterans’ specialists in his Ellwood City office. Gibbons said Stephanie Bengoa and Ryan Paglia will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 at his Ellwood City office, located at 438 Line Ave., to lend help to veterans and their families. Gibbons announces state loan for New Brighton company

HARRISBURG, Sept. 7 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, today announced the Standard Horse Nail Company of New Brighton was awarded a $123,000 loan from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority. The company, one of the largest domestic producers of machine keys, woodruff keys, taper pins, and other precision fasteners, received a 15-year loan at 3 percent interest to assist with the renovation of 25,000-square-feet of currently unused space in its facility. “Manufacturing is a major component of our local economy and this loan will ensure that a growing company remains and expands here in Beaver County,” Gibbons said. “I’m glad…

Hot weather in August leads to spike in utility usage

The borough manager, Bob Villella wanted to share the following information with the community about August electric usage: August 2016 was the second hottest month of August since 1947.  The 76.0 degree average temperature was exceeded only by August 1995. The hot and humid weather lead to another record usage by the Borough for 2016.  Ellwood City’s customers as a whole used 5,962,000 kWh in August.  This is the highest amount of electricity by Ellwood City since July of 2013. The Borough’s hourly peak usage of 12,773 kW occurred on August 12 at 5 pm.  This peak is higher than…

Wayne Township Monthly Board Meeting

Man accused of cooking meth and holding knife to girlfriend’s throat According to the criminal complaint, on August 28 a woman arrived to the police station in hysterics claiming she had a knife put to her throat by her boyfriend, Tyler Michael Cory Amos, 25, of Cochranton, Pennsylvania. The victim said that she woke up from a nap and when she walked into her kitchen she saw Amos cooking a substance in a jar with a hose attached, which she believes was meth. Medevac Ambulance Service Recognized for Advanced Pediatric Service

Medevac Ambulance Service has received an Advanced Certificate of Recognition from the Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Services for Children. This multi-phase recognition program was created for EMS agencies who wish to establish programs and standards to improve their capabilities to deliver care to pediatrics. Medevac is the first EMS agency in Lawrence County to receive Advanced level. The Pediatric Voluntary Recognition Program (PVRP) was created by the EMS for Children program, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of EMS.
