2016 Riverside Panther Night

Yesterday held Riverside’s annual Panther Night, where hundreds of people gathered in celebration of recognizing this year’s fall sports teams. The night of festivities included raffles, concessions, band and cheering performances, and of course, introducing all of the team members. All of the teams have trained hard and are excited for their upcoming competitions. We encourage everyone to continue showing the local teams your support, and we would like to wish all the sports players and band members a productive and winning year! Ellwood City Public Library Activities for the Week of Aug 22

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following:   Tuesday, August 23, at 11:30 a.m. – Creative Writing Workshop for students in 9th grade and up. The group meets twice each month to share their work and discuss writing tips and techniques. Ellwood City Man Threatens Relatives with Knife for a Second Time

According to the criminal complaint filed on 8/16/16, Adam Pounds, 24, of Ellwood City fled from police, on foot, after an altercation Tuesday the ninth involving him threatening his brother with a knife. Officers were advised by dispatch that Pounds had fled prior to their arrival. When the officers arrived on scene they searched the area for Pounds, later finding him on a trail at the rear of the Moose Club. Officers advised Pounds, who was about 25 yards away, to get on the ground so they could detain him. Pounds decided to continue fleeing which lead officers to deploy…


Standing Up to Ellwood Electric- Updates

In previous posts we have introduced the Facebook group, Standing Up to Ellwood Electric. It’s a group consisting of local community members that are concerned about the increased electric rates. Dave Gulish, the founder of the group, has been regularly checking on the status of the issue and makes relevant information available to the public via his site. Yesterday he updated his site, posting one image of a scanned document he obtained from the county municipal building. Police Report: Adderal Stolen in Burglary

According to the police report, on Monday night officers were called to the residence of 520 Second Street in Ellwood. The victim stated that she came home and heard foot steps and noises in her house. She said there was a trail of “wet” footprints, which she cleaned up before police arrived, and the screen on the upstairs window was popped out. It appeared that the burglars may have entered the house by climbing onto a steel crate located around the back of the house giving them the ability to reach the roof, thus allowing them to force their way…


Class of 1954 August Meeting

Pudue La Cava hosted the 1954 Lincoln Class “Life is a Beach” committee for a wrap-up meeting at her residence on Thursday, August 11. The session began with lunch provided by committee members, Ann Amadio, Paul Abraham, Arlene “Pinky” Maielli, Ilene Gardner, Glemmy Sirimarco, and La Cava. Gardner and La Cava served, Gardner later shared her birthday cake- prepared for her by Maielli. Abraham conducted the business session that followed. Notification of Tax Office Hours in August

Mary Ann Portugallo, Ellwood City tax collector located in the municipal building, informs the public that school discount is usually due by August 31 but is now extended to September 15. Her office will remain regular – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
