Police Issues Discussed at the Council Meeting

Several police-force related questions and comments were brought up at this weeks council meeting. Foremost, Judy Dici, one of the council members, asked when the Borough plans to hire a part time officer to help remedy the overtime hours some of the officers are currently getting; according to what was discussed at the meeting, the Borough is still reviewing applications and remain active in the process of hiring a part time officer. Drug Disposal Event

Riverside Qualified for Soccer Playoffs

The Riverside Girls and Boys Soccer Teams qualified for the WPIAL Playoffs.  Furthermore, this is the first time in school history the girls soccer team has advanced to the playoffs. The girls will open the playoffs this Monday, October 24, 2016 against Seton LaSalle at Moon High School at 6PM. The bus will leave at 3:45PM The boys team begins the playoffs on Saturday, October 22, 2016 against Obama Academy at Cupples Stadium at 2PM. The bus will leave at 11:30AM. Also, Skyler Fox qualified for the PIAA Individual Golf FINALS in Hershey.


Orthodox Study Group at St. Elias Church to Start October 22

St. Elias Orthodox Church will be holding a weekly Orthodox Spirituality Study Group every Saturday at 5 pm, starting October 22. Discussions will be based on the book The Mountain of Silence: A Search for Orthodox Spirituality by Kyriacos Markides. In this book, the author presents conversations, reflections, and personal dialogue, plus history and travel information that explore the Orthodox spiritual tradition. Copies of the book will be available at the first session. An informal pot-luck soup supper will be served during the sessions, followed by Vespers at 7 pm in the church. All are welcome! Suspicious Man Trying to Lure Kids to Van According to the police report, on October 17 police were dispatched to the area of Division and Fairview Ave. after receiving a call for a suspicious persons complaint. The caller advised the responding officer that after her granddaughter got off the school bus she was approached by a white man with black curly hair and a black beard in a black panel van asking her to come over to the van because he had something he wanted to show her. Lincoln Class of 1954 September Meeting

Pudue LaCava hosted the Lincoln Class of 1954, “Nite at the Movies” committee at her Mt. Vernon Drive home at 4p.m., Thursday, September 22. The full committee includes Paul Abraham, James Spielvogel, James Gillespie, John and Patty Tino, Ann Amadio, Rose and Dom Massaro, Jan Keenan, Arlene “Pinky” Maielli, Ilene Gardner, Clemmy Sirimarch and Pudue LaCava. The session began with lunch provided by the committee members and served by Gardner and the arm-casted LaCava, who was involved in an automobile accident and all expressed a speedy recovery for her. Council Votes to Pass 12 Million Dollar Bond

Yesterday held Ellwood City’s monthly regular meeting. All of the agendas were passed at this meeting, to view all agenda items click here. There was an exceptionally large number of visitors at the meeting last night, so large that the council meeting had to be moved into the municipal building’s auditorium in order to accommodate all of the visitors. Aaron Bernstine Promises to Put an End to Utilities Being Used as Tax Tool

Aaron Bernstine, a local to the community and a candidate running for State Representative, was one of many visitors who spoke at the council meeting last night. He was there to express his concerns about the electric contract the Borough is tied into.
