Deadly Crash in North Sewickley

A crash that happened slightly before 7a.m. this morning on Route 65 going toward New Brighton has claimed the life of a teenager and injured another. According to another news source, 19-year-old old Isaiah Hunter of New Brighton appeared to drift into the opposing lane of traffic, causing a head on collision with an SUV. Hunter’s car set on fire while other drivers attempted to free him, but he did not survive. PPA Comparison: Nov. 2016 Through Feb. 2017 VS. Previous Year

The attached information is being provided in order to inform Ellwood City Electric customers of the effect the reduction in the Transmission and Capacity charges set by PJM has had upon the Rate Adjustment (PPA Factor) and customer billings during the months of November 2016 through the upcoming billing in February 2017. Comparisons of PPA components (Energy Purchased, American Municipal Power-Power Charges, as well as Transmission and Capacity Charges) were used. Suboxone Clinic Opens in Ellwood City

Controversially, a suboxone clinic located on Pershing Street only a few blocks from the hospital has recently opened as an attempt to combat opiate addictions in the area. After the positive results of operating another suboxone clinic at their Bridgeville location, Freedom Healthcare Services was requested to open another clinic for the cause in Ellwood City. PHOTOS: Encore Performance Puts Panthers Past Wolverines

Everyone likes a good encore. But for Panthers and Wolverines players and fans, this Rivalry 2.0 game was too much like the original. Once again, the Panthers overcame a slow start, a first quarter deficit, and early Wolverine momentum to mount another sound defeat of Ellwood City 60-48 Friday night a Section 1-3A showdown. After two successful summer seasons, the Ellwood City Basketball League is preparing for their third season – this time as a winter league. “We have some really good teams in the league, it’s competitive, but it’s also about having fun and hanging out with friends,” Matt Boffo, a coordinator for the organization stated. New Castle Sanitation Authority Receives $11 Million in State Financing

The New Castle Sanitation Authority was today (January 25) awarded an $11 million low-interest loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to provide sewage service in Shenango Township, according to Senator Elder Vogel Jr. (R-47). The project involves the installation of more than 220,000 feet of service lines and several other major improvements to the current system. A sewage disposal needs survey in Shenango Township found that 69 percent of the on-lot disposal systems were malfunctioning. “This project will address serious contamination issues caused by the release of untreated or partially treated sewage into local waterways by malfunctioning systems…

The Ellwood City Wolverines used an early cushion to easily cruise to a 59-34 victory over New Brighton Tuesday night while the Riverside Panthers found their stroke from the free throw line to hold on and beat Aliquippa 61-59.  With victories for both squads, Ellwood City (8-7 overall) next travels to Riverside (10-6 overall) for their second meeting of the season – with playoff implications on the line.
