Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of July 4th

The library will be closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of the holiday. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, July 5. Tuesday, July 5, at 10:00 a.m. — “Jump Start to Kindergarten,” a five-week program designed for children entering kindergarten in the fall. Opinion: Festival!

It’s the most exciting time of the year in Ellwood City! The time that Ewing Park gets filled with tents, trailers, humans and food. Everybody in the Ellwood area should go to the festival! We should all unabashedly promote the festival. This year’s festival is under almost entirely new leadership, and they’ve done a wonderful job marketing and organizing. Undefeated 12U Ladies Capture Beaver/Lawrence County Championship with 7-0 Victory Over Beaver

The razor sharp 12u team traveled to Gaston Park in New Castle on Thursday evening and came away with a 7-0 win over Beaver to win the Beaver/Lawrence County Championship. The team finished the season with a record of 15-0. Angie Nardone was fabulous in the circle as she tossed a two hit shutout in the six inning affair. She fanned 10, walked two and only allowed one runner past second base. Six different batters contributed hits to the well balanced offense. Mayor Presents Seventh Beautification Award

On Thursday, Mayor Anthony J. Court awarded to Pamela Bleakney of Orchard Avenue the seventh and final Beautification Award and Gift Certificate for the 2016 Season. On Tuesday, Mayor Anthony J. Court awarded to Margaret and Bill Atkinson of Riverside Drive the sixth presentation of the 2016 Beautification Award and Gift Certificate. Several Ellwood Property and Business Owners Oppose Proposed Zoning Ordinance

“Over the years, your business district has sprawled and lost purpose,” Mark Pelusio of Town Center Associates said at the beginning of a public hearing on a proposed zoning ordinance for the Ellwood City Borough. In brief, the proposed zoning would divide Ellwood’s core business district into four sub-districts with the intention of creating a pedestrian dominated area on Lawrence Avenue from Fourth to Eight Street consisting primarily of retail and dining establishments. Police: Police Raid House and Find 42 Sick Cats and Three Dead Cats

Cruelty to Animals A Wayne Township woman was charged with cruelty to animals following a search of her residence on West Lawrence Avenue. Throughout May, the Wayne Township Animal Control Officer investigated Delores Esther Conley’s residence and viewed several cats that were visibly sick and needed treated or euthanized. After the defendant took no action, Lawrence County officers executed a search warrant and removed 42 live cats and three deceased cats.
