At the Ellwood City Borough council agenda meeting on Aug. 8, Rob Brough, representing the citizen group “Standing Up to Ellwood Electric,” which has almost 1,200 members, read a letter requesting an informal meeting of citizens and council members to discuss the Ellwood City Electric Department. At the conclusion of the meeting, council president Connie MacDonald met with Brough to set the date, time and place. DUI Man Says “Just Arrest Me Already” According to the criminal compliant on July 30, at approximately 2:20 a.m., officers were dispatched for a DUI at the Ellwood City McDonalds. Officers made contact with the Joseph Michael Marino, 30, of Pittsburgh, Marino said “just arrest me already. I know I’m drunk and I know I’m not going to pass.” Marino was taken to the Ellwood City Hospital and later charged with two counts of DUI. Police: Man Steals Converter and Battery from Brother and Uses Stolen Credit Card

An Ellwood resident was accused of three separate incidences of theft within a month period. In criminal complaints filed on July 27 and 28, Bronson Michael Lane, 27, was charged with two instances of stealing car parts from his brother and one incident of using a stolen credit card. On May 30 and June 1, Lane stole a car battery and other parts from his brother and sold returned them to Autozone for $263.59. Standing Up to Ellwood Electric Resource Page and Right to Know Request

Standing Up to Ellwood Electric, a Facebook page created in response to larger-than-average electric bills in the Ellwood City Borough for July’s billing cycle, has grown to nearly 1,200 members. One of the group’s moderators, Dave Gulish, created a resource page available to anyone wishing to learn more about Ellwood’s Electric Department and borough government. On July 20, Gulish filed a Right to Know request with the borough for information including wages, wage increases, overtime wages and general information on the electric department.
