Rep. Aaron Bernstine Endorses Mayoral Candidates

Today, State Representative Aaron Bernstine formally endorsed incumbent mayoral candidates Anthony Court of Ellwood City and George Quay of Beaver Falls.  Both Court and Quay will be on the Democratic ballot in the primary election to be held on May 16th.  Both mayors are also seeking write-in votes to secure positions on the Republican ticket for the general election in November. The students at Riverside are getting ready to celebrate the 2017 prom. Doors to the event will open at 6:00 for both the auditorium and gymnasium. Students will walk through the gymnasium beginning at 6:25. Promenade begins in the auditorium at 6:30, followed by prom at Shakespeare’s until midnight. Tickets for the auditorium are $5 each. Seating in the gymnasium is free of charge. After-prom follows until 5am, also at Shakespeare’s. The after-prom features casino games, Minute to Win It, photo booth, and prizes. Riverside Track Wins WPIAL Championship

The Riverside track team doesn’t show any signs of slowing down – literally. The Riverside Boys Track and Field Team defeated three other finalists to become the winners of the WPIAL Team Track and Field Championships at Baldwin High School on Monday.  The victory is the fourth boys WPIAL team crown since 2007 Riverside picked up the title with wins against Derry Area, Shenango and Freeport.  Shenango beat out Derry for second-place due to an overall points tiebreaker. SMC Councils Minimum Wage Survey Reveals Small Business Challenges with Governor’s Proposal

HARRISBURG, PA – In his 2017-18 budget, Governor Tom Wolf calls for a mandated increase in the minimum wage from $7.25 to $12 per hour effective on July 1 of this year, with no phase in period. SMC Business Councils, along with 10 affiliate organizations, conducted a minimum wage survey among 450 Western Pennsylvania small businesses, finding 85 percent of respondents disagreed with the governor’s proposal, while only 11 percent agreed.   More than 30 members of SMC Business Councils will converge on Harrisburg on Monday, May 8, 2017 to present members of the Governor’s staff with results from the…

Lincoln High student, Joseph Cortez, received a $1,500 scholarship from the Ellwood Area Education Association. The scholarship is funded every year by contributions from the teachers in the Ellwood City School District. The recipient is selected based on a combination of grades and SAT scores. EC Adult Basketball League Regular Season Finale Recap

There was no shortage of action and a healthy dose of competitive hoops in the Ellwood City Adult Basketball League’s regular season finale Sunday at the Family Center. Channeling their inner Macho Man, Big Fun had their elbows ready for their long awaited rematch against Turncoats. The defending league champions had Sunday on their calendars circled since March 5th when Turncoats handed them their first loss. Turncoats moseyed on into the Family Center with an outstanding league best 16-1 record.  The rematch was set. Information Regarding New Utility Bill Format

Ellwood City Borough Manager Bob Villella released information regarding the updated utility billing format. Villella stresses that although there is a delay in the April billing due to the billing program change-over, residents will still have a full 10 days to pay their bill – which he believes will be arriving next week. “It is not the customers fault that the billing is delayed and they will have the full amount of time to pay their bill as usual.” Villella says the new billing will continue on a 30-31 day cycle and will have much more detailed information including a…
