The Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation hosted their annual opening day ceremony Saturday at Friedhoff Field – an event which the organizations Vice President, Michael Widmaier, said was a success. “The weather held off until the end, parents and grandparents paraded with their kids, the high school baseball players applauded the young players as they paraded onto the field, Mayor Court attended, and Nathan Scott threw the first pitch. Overall the day was successful.” The event had carnival style games including a dunk tank, raffle, parade, Chinese auction, home run derby, and the national anthem sung by a local student….

Mountaineer Casino Bus Trip Sunday, May 7, 2017 8:30 A.M. Depart       Team Circle of Friends is going to Mountaineer in Wheeling, West Virginia to play at the casino.  The group will depart from the Ellwood City Hospital via Anderson Coach at 8:30 am and gamble until 3:00 pm, during the ride there will be fun and games.  The cost is $30.00 which includes a $20.00 slot play vouchers received upon arrival to the casino. PennPower Worker Killed After Fatal Accident

A PennPower worker was killed Sunday in Wayne Township after a fatal accident involving the bucket truck he was in occurred. James George, 54, of New Castle was working on power lines around noon when the bucket truck became unstable and tipped over, causing George to fall nearly 30 feet. George was with two other coworkers during the time of the incident, both of which remain unharmed. First Energy and the Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident and what caused the truck to tip over. First Energy issued a statement saying they are deeply saddened by the loss.


Stiefel Park Batting Practice: Lady Wolverines Hit 2 Homers and Improve to 10-0

 Grove City entered Friday evening’s non section game with 11 home runs on the season. The Lady Wolverines won the home run battle and the game with a 9-5 victory. Borough Notice – Online Bill Pay Suspended

According to information made available by the Borough of Ellwood City this afternoon, and effective Monday, May 1st, the borough online bill pay will be suspended temporarily during a software conversion process. All utility payments must be made by cash, check, credit card or money order utilizing the mail, drop box or window service. The borough apologizes for any inconvenience.  


BC3 Lauds Scholarly Ellwood City Residents

(Butler, PA) Kimberly Gardner, of Second Street, was among Ellwood City residents whose academic achievements were recognized by Butler County Community College on Tuesday during Student Awards Day. Gardner, 55, a 1980 graduate of Lincoln High School, will receive two associate of applied science degrees in May from BC3, in human resource management and in business management. She was honored Tuesday for having attained President’s List honors in the spring and fall semesters of 2016. Lieutenant Speaks About Importance of Drug Take-Back Programs

The Ellwood City Police Department is sponsoring a drug take-back program on Saturday, April 29 at the Ellwood City Municipal Building. Residents may use the opportunity to turn in unused or expired medication for safe disposal, which the Ellwood City Police Lieutenant says is a critical step towards improving the growing amount of drug addictions. “The importance of the program is that it takes away the ability to use prescription drugs from people who may be experimenting with them, especially the opioids,” Lt.
