No Proposed Tax Increase for Riverside School District

Total revenue for Riverside School District is proposed to be $24,608,155 with $24,933,735 in expenditures. The district isn’t proposing a tax increase this year. Top expense categories, which reflect 95 percent of the budget, include wages and benefits, debt service, transportation, tuition, supplies and books, utilities, special education services, substitute services, Questeq, equipment and other costs, comes out to $24.9 million, with $271,368 in budgetary reserve. The budgetary reserve includes health insurance, approved private charter and nonpublic school tuitions as well as technical school tuitions. Senate Approves Vogel Bill Promoting Telemedicine in Pennsylvania

The Senate today (June 13) approved legislation introduced by Senator Elder Vogel (R-Beaver) aimed at promoting telemedicine in Pennsylvania as a way to overcome barriers to quality patient care created by distance and reduce the costs of those services. Senate Bill 780 specifically defines telemedicine as “the delivery of health care services provided through telecommunications technology to a patient by a healthcare practitioner who is at a different location.” It also establishes guidelines regarding who can provide telemedicine services, and provides clarity regarding insurance company reimbursement for those services. “Telemedicine can help patients get the care they need. Lawrence Avenue Event Pulled from Council Agenda

At Monday’s Ellwood City borough council agenda meeting, Scott and Caroline Golmic addressed council regarding an event request that was pulled from the agenda. The Golmics, owners of Sweet Caroline’s at 507 Lawrence Ave., leased an empty lot at 509 Lawrence with the intention of hosting events to promote the downtown. The Golmics paired together with other local businesses to host an event on May 23 for the Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation, which attracted hundreds of people downtown. Ellwood City School District On New Pennsylvania Required Prevention Program

In April, Ellwood City School’s attended the Blueprints Conference at Penn State University. The conference presented a slideshow focusing on new required opioid education for Pennsylvania students grades 6-12 on prevention, risk, protective factors and effective prevention of the opioid epidemic. Ellwood City received a 5-year grant for Life Skills Training in 2013. The grant allowed the school to further implement a prevention program to its students. LST is a Blueprints program that is part of the grant ECASD received from the University of Colorado, Center for the Prevention on Violence. Wampum Trail Town Festival

The Wampum Trail Town Festival will be held rain or shine from 11:00 am  to 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 23, at the Wampum Train Station, 303 Main Street, Wampum, PA 16157.  Vendors will be able to begin setting up at 9:30 am and are expected to remain set up until 3:00 pm.
