Ellwood City United Fund Board’s Annual Campaign Continues Through November

The Ellwood City United Fund Board announced its 2019 annual campaign fund drive last month. The campaign started October 1, 2018 and will conclude January 31, 2019. The Boards Selection Committee has chosen six service agencies to seek funds for the year 2019. The Agencies selected: City Rescue Mission, L.A.R.K. Enterprises, People-in-Need, Ellwood City Public Library, Human Services-Unicenter, and Rita Hazen Education Foundation. The Boy and Girl Scouts will receive an annual donation to fund the various programs that promote scouting. The Allocation Committee will review the agencies needs and allocate funds in January 2019. Halloween is a time of year when ghost stories, folklores, and other scary tales begin to surface. In and around Lawrence County, one story seems to never lose its fascination. Mary Black, an alleged witch in Lawrence County during the 1800s, has been the antagonist of countless folklores since the 1950s. Her life, and the stories that accompany it, is constantly debated. While there are many stories without a known origin, like the tale of Bloody Mary, The Hook, or even the well known tales of the creature Slenderman, one known legend claims local Koppel Pa it’s origin. Ellwood City Medical Center Communal Events

Tonight for Ellwoods Trick or Treating, the Ellwood Cit Medical Center will be handing out treats from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be treats located near the main entrance driveway. In other news, the Medical Center will be hosting a Meals On Wheels jewelry sale fundraiser. Panthers Set To Travel For WPIAL Playoff Opening Round Game

The Riverside Panthers will make an 80-mile journey and travel to Charleroi on Friday for their opening round game Friday night at 7:30pm in Carroll Township. The Panthers (6-3 overall) gathered a 13-seed in the Class-AA WPIAL Playoffs and will open with a defacto road game against Interstate Conference champion Charleroi (8-1 overall) on the Cougars home turf. Games who frequent a local comic book, New Dimension Comics, are opening up their upcoming food drive to the public. Penn State Cooperative Extension Offers ServSafe Food Safety Certification

NEW CASTLE, PA – According to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, licensed food establishments must have all persons in charge successfully complete a food safety training class. Completing the necessary training and passing the associated exam brings licensed food establishments into compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) Food Employee Certification Act. New Brighton backer Ashton Fath scored with less than a minute in regulation to boost the Lions to a 22-16 road victory over the Panthers Friday night.
