Junior High Softball Team Gets Lit Up By Armstrong; Record Falls To 6-2

As Armstrong entered the bottom of the fourth inning to hit, they held a 4-1 advantage. 15 batters later, the Lady Wolverines were getting on the bus and heading home with a 16-1 defeat that was ended by the mercy rule in that same 4th inning. Armstrong put on an offensive show with 14 hits including two homers four doubles, and one triple. The Wolverine defense also committed 6 errors that led to 10 unearned runs that did not help matters. Conversely, Ellwood City was only able to muster 2 singles on the day. Hospital Develops Niche Services, Adds Doctors

The best way to support the Ellwood City Medical Center and its employees is to use it for services. According to the Medical Center’s Marketing Manager Victoria Gatto, a 14-year employee, that is vital to the hospital’s future. “We are still open,” she said. “We still have great employees here ready to treat and serve you.” Gatto said general hospital services such as x-rays and blood work are all services that will help the hospital start to generate positive cash flow. National Day Of Prayer Planned At Community Plaza

There will be a National Day of Prayer event held at the Ellwood City Community Plaza on Lawrence Avenue. The event will start at 11:45 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Badlands (the old 5th Street Diner) 225 Fifth St. There will be a complimentary Luncheon to follow at the Bandlands. This luncheon is co-sponsored by Ellport and Moravia Presbyterian Churches. Music will be provided by the Sisters of the Holy Transfiguration Monastery. World War II Pearl Harbor Survivor Turns 101

Happy (early) Birthday to Ellwood City’s Joseph Michael Gasper, who is turning 101 on Tuesday, April 23. He is our area’s last World War II Pearl Harbor Survivor. Gasper, who has lived in Ellwood City ever since he was discharged from the Army in 1945, is still very sharp and enjoys talking with his friends and family. Last year he was feted to a grand centenarian birthday party that included a gun salute from the Veterans Guard. He received dozens of cards from all over the world and birthday greetings from television and other entertainment stars. This year will be…

Save The Ellwood City Fireworks Campaign Kicks Off

Ellwood City/Ellport resident Eric Rayner kicked off his “Save the Ellwood City Fireworks” campaign receiving his first donations towards his goal of 5,000.00. Making the first donations and pictured below were (left to right) Justin Neupauer of Alborn Tire Sales, Councilman George Celli, Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court, Councilwoman Marilyn Mancini, Lt. David Kingston on behalf of the ECPD. Rayner will officially open up for donations via Facebook on Monday. Library Activities For The Week Of April 22

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24 10:00 a.m. – “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. Lady Wolverines Easily Dispatch Hopewell

The Ellwood City Wolverines varsity softball team easily dispatched Hopewell 11-1 on Thursday afternoon at Steifel Park. The Wolverines tallied five runs in the third inning to blow the game open after being staked to a one-run lead in the first inning. Angie Nardone, Mollie Street, and Kali Barnett all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the third. “Ringing in the new year” refers to the old tradition of celebrating beginnings and endings with bells. Junior High Softball Team Loses First Game In Two Years; Record Now 6-1

They say that all good things must end. For the Lady Wolverines, their 25 game winning streak dating back to April of 2017 was snapped by the Laurel Spartans. The Spartans came to Stiefel Park and left with a 5-0 victory. Winning pitcher Autumn Boyd was dominant in the circle as she allowed just 6 baserunners and tossed a no-hitter. Penn State Master Gardeners Of Lawrence County Open Garden Hotline For The Season

The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County has opened their Garden Hotline for the 2019 Season. The Master Gardeners of Lawrence County can answer questions on a variety of topics including growing vegetables, fruits, ornamentals and turf grass, plant identification, pruning, and insect and disease problems. Advice encourages the use of integrated pest management and environmentally sound practices. To help with identification and diagnosis, plant and insect specimens can be brought to the Lawrence County Extension office located on the third floor of the courthouse during Garden Hotline hours.
