Ellwood City Blood Drive Honors Memory of Shooting Victim

ELLWOOD CITY – It’s been six years since Richard Hogue was shot and killed, and his family continues to turn their pain into saving lives by hosting a blood drive in his memory. They host the blood drive every year near the anniversary of his death, and again this year the event will be on the actual date, November 16, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Administrative Center, 300 Crescent Ave., Ellwood City, PA 16117. General Election 2019 Results

All the votes are cast and tallied in the 2019 General Election. Ellwood City had two pivotal races on the ballot, Ellwood City Council and Ellwood City School District’s Board of Directors. Joining incumbants George Celli and Judith Dici on Ellwood City Council will be newcomer Caleb Crable.     Ellwood City School Board will welcome two newcomers: Jean Biehls and Gary Rozanski. Christ Presbyterian Celebrating Its 40th Boar’s Head Festival

Christ Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City is celebrating its 40th year of the “Boar’s Head Festival”. Presented at least as early as 1346 in Oxford, England, the Boar’s Head, and yule log ceremony is probably the oldest continuous festival of the Christmas season. The one-hour presentation celebrates the birth of Christ and features music conducted by Dan Forsberg, and accompanied by the Ellwood City Civic Chorale and organist David DeCaria. Members of the cast, chorus and orchestra are from all over the local region including Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. You are invited to join in the festival celebration….

Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities For Week of November 4

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Riverside Roars Back Late, Upsets Burgettstown

Riverside overcame a 15-point second half deficit to rally back and upset #3 seed, and host Burgettstown 42-35 in overtime Friday night in WPIAL Class-AA opening round playoff action. Riverside (7-3 overall) roared back with Ben Hughes tallying the game tying score and two-point conversion midway through the 4th quarter. After the teams exchanged unsuccessful possessions late, the game bled to overtime where the Panthers secured the upset. Senate Approves Vogel Bill Promoting Telemedicine in Pennsylvania

On October 30, the Senate approved legislation introduced by Senator Elder Vogel (R-Beaver) aimed at promoting telemedicine in Pennsylvania as a way to overcome barriers to quality patient care created by distance and reduce the costs of those services. Senate Bill 857 specifically defines telemedicine as “the delivery of health care services provided through telecommunications technology to a patient by a healthcare practitioner who is at a different location.” It also establishes guidelines regarding who can provide telemedicine services, and provides clarity regarding insurance company reimbursement for those services. “Telemedicine can help patients get the care they need. Ellwood City Cocaine Dealer Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court to 15 years (180 months) in prison and six years of supervised release on his conviction of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and distribution of cocaine, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today. Senior United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Taurean Potter, age 34, of Ellwood City Pennsylvania. According to information presented to the court during his trial, Potter sold cocaine out of Ellwood City bars in 2017 and 2018, and he sold cocaine to other cocaine dealers who would further…
